kai2: Gameplay-wise Days Gone is much better than The Last of Us. Story-wise Days Gone is lacking in comparison to The Last of Us. In the end...
StingingVelvet: I'm not a big fan of open world checklist games but I played through Horizon anyway for the cool world and story. Zombie fighting bikers just doesn't do it for me in the same way. Maybe on GOG in a sale someday...
Last of Us is less open world and more stealth right? Hope we get those on PC, that's more up my alley.
Yes, The Last of Us is linear with somewhat open levels.
The entire game (The Last of Us) is stealth...
.. but...
... even that gameplay is "broken" IMO.
Why do I say this?
During almost the entire game you will be escorting Ellie to various locations, but while this is happening -- in the middle of tense hide-and-seek scenarios -- Ellie will walk right in front of enemies and they won't react at all to her. She's a non-entity.
Granted, this happens in a number of games -- the player character being visible or not is the only "trigger" for stealth -- but in a game that's all about hiding (stealth) from what are essentially bandits and "zombies," Ellie's walking around in "full view" completely destroys any immersion I had.
IMHO the only reason to play The Last of Us is the story (and characters as vehicle for that story). If you don't play games primarily for the story (if you play primarily for gameplay), I'd suggest foregoing The Last of Us... but then I'm not a big fan of Naughty Dog.
To those interest in Days Gone:
Do know that the story ends on a cliffhanger (I have heard this... but have not finished the game myself) and Sony didn't green light a sequel. In fact Bend Studios has moved on to other projects.
