Ziggurat Interactive is bringing old Data East arcade games to steam (scanlines included):
https://store.steampowered.com/search/?developer=Data%20East

Many folks will probably remember great classics like Dragon Ninja or Joe&Mac from their arcade teen years. I guess that for people used to MAME emulators it's probably no big deal. But for others it'd be a great return to the past and good old times spending quarters to kick ninja ass.

If anyone would like to see those games on GOG, put your vote on the Wishlist

Wishlisted, but is from Ziggurat so probably they will bring them here!!! GOG and Ziggurat have a good business relationship!!!!
Put in my vote

Shame that a lot of these sets don't include console or home computer ports from the time period.

I'm not sure I'd call anything from Data East as a "classic", but they certainly had a roster.

After all, they codified the modern idea of Kusoge.

Agreed. Unfortunately that'd mean they'd have to create emulators for many 8-bit and 16-bit machines or buy the licenses.
And considering that most home computer conversions of arcade beat'em-ups were terrible, it probably wouldn't be worth the effort, unless it'd be a question of historical context.

True, but sometimes it's fun to see what developers could do with the limited hardware of the time.

Plus there are some instances of the home port being better than the arcade (Contra comes to mind) and others were the home port became a completely new experience.
Heavy Barrel is most definitely a classic. The Darwin games aren't too bad either. Already bought the My Arcade mini player, though. If the games are released here, I suppose I'll buy them again.

Are they going to be censored and/or otherwise altered from the original versions, like Zigguarat's BloodRayne remaster is in many ways?

Wishlisted. I want Two Crude soooo so bad. Also, hearing Data East makes me kind of sad they never re-released NightSlashers.

They need to release Tag Team Wrestling. Still haven't figured out what those characters say. I'll take Boogie Wings, Ring King, Last Mission, Chelnov, Robocop, Captain America and the Avengers, Vapor Trail, Desert Assault, and Tattoo Assassins, too.

Is this going to include Fighter's History Dynamite?

You take that back! Fighter's History Dynamite is one of Data East's games and is a classic!

I'm not so sure about that.

With BloodRayne, Ziggurat even made new & very bad changes that no one wanted or asked for or applied pressure on them to make...yet they did it anyway, such as turning some of the creatures green and thus making them look cartoony & asinine, whereas they instead looked terrifying & gritty in their original versions.

So based on that dubious history, who know what other sorts of whacko changes they will make in their future projects.

We can't be sure there will be no changes unless they directly, explicitly, outright guarantee that with a public statement that says unambiguously that none of the games' content has been altered in any way.

No. Only the 8 games mentioned on the steam list.
But if the sales prove successful I guess more games will inevitably arrive.
"RoboCop" or the "Captain America" one are not possible to be publish again. Licenced games, licence ended years ago, a renewing of the licences would be VERY expensive / TOO expensive. We talk MGM or Marvel here.
