A day ago I asked some advice about Darkest Dungeon, but I guess nobody noticed my post, so I'm starting this thread.
Since its release I've been intrigued by Darkest Dungeon. I love the artwork, the turn-based combat, the progression system, the Lovecraft setting, and that GODLY narrator voice.
However it had always been a little more expensive than I was willing to spend. When it reached the 60% discount I was ready to get it, but that happened after the release of the DLC, and that's when I noticed some worrying reviews. Apparently the developers made some changes to the items and hero skills in the game, in order to balance the elements by the DLC. Unfortunately they also applied these nerfs to the base game, even if you lacked the DLC, which made the game too difficult.
I ask of those of you that have played the balanced base game, without the DLC, what is your opinion on the current state of the game. Do you find the reviews to be accurate?
I'd love to play the game, as long as I can play the game. :) If it's indeed too difficult, I wait until I can also buy the DLC at a price I'd feel comfortable at.
NOTE: I intentionally did not mark this thread as a question, because I'm asking for personal opinions. So please don't attack others opinions, by staying away from memes such as "get gud" and "filthy casuals".
Note 2: I'm hoping the reviews are from people frustrated with the changed, due to the negative impact on their ongoing playthroughs. It would be understandable for them to be angry, should their current game became unwinnable, just because the developers nerfed their build, which they had worked on for 10-20 hours.
