Chacranajxy: Alright, GOG. Now's your chance.
That's what I came here to say, so I'll just bump the thread. :)

Bandai Namco is here, right? And they like cash money, yeah? Make some calls, GOG!

Also, Nioh.

Dark Souls is getting a rerelease on all current platforms, including PC. The new version will be running in the Dark Souls 3 engine, and should finally free us from the ghettoness of the current DS1 PC port.

THERE IS A GOD. AND HE HAS GOOD TASTE IN VIDEO GAMES.

Thanks for sharing this info! I actually just started playing Dark Souls 2 again recently, as I never played the PC version before, or any of the add-on content. It's a shame the original PC version of Dark Souls 1 was such a mess, so it's great to see they're finally delivering a worthy PC release. I wonder how much effort they'll put into it, but if it really uses the Dark Souls 3 engine, that's already a good sign. I hope it will also have some small gameplay improvements, and perhaps some new content.

My bet is that they're gonna slap Denuvo in.

That article implies that the statements in the OP of this thread contain misinformation.
I'm quite interested in the Switch version. I feel like it might play poorly when it's handheld? I'm curious if there is anyone on here who has an idea of how well they think the Switch version is going to work?
Yes, it would be awesome if it could make it way to here. Game should fit GOGs audience very well hence to all of the connections and similiarities to the big names of 3D-B-RPGs. And Namco is technically on board...
...well, I´d think that the multiplayerpart of the game could be a problem. And although I´d love to see it scraped out in favour of a GOG release, I don´t think it´s very likely...

Breja: I don't. I've no interest in games that rely on being super-duper difficult as a main selling point.
Really? Couldn´t pop in your mind that superb world design (tons of verticality!), a vast variaty of enemies and a well-crafted progression system would be the games main selling points and that no dumped down difficulty would be one that follows afterwards?

Having recently got my Switch I'm also quite interested in that version. I've never played Dark Souls but am quite curious too.

I can't see it being any problem, I've only got Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (which isn't too strenuous graphically) and it shows no difference really in handheld and on the TV.

What I'm wondering is whether it would be better to get on the PC or for console? Is it designed to play better with a controller?

No, but if you downvote me some more I'm sure I'll recognise the glory that is Dark Souls :D

Crackpot.756: I give approximately 0 shits about the remaster (if it's only a graphics/visual overhaul) but having Dark Souls on GOG would be nice. It's been a few years, and if they're worried about needing Steam for the online aspect of the game - Galaxy is a thing. You could play offline without Galaxy, and online with if you want co-op and/or PVP.

Crosmando: Wasn't the Dark Souls 1 PC port the one which didn't even have 1080p support? Sounds like paying for patches.
avatar
Crackpot.756: Yeh, although no one in their right mind plays that without DSfix these days, which adds 1080 support and removes the horrid 30 FPS cap.
Which is why this "remaster" seems like it'll only make it slightly prettier.
Come on now, the fact that a modern 3d PC game (the PC was released in 2012) does not have 1080p support, and needs to rely on unofficial fan-made patches, is outrageous in the extreme.

Hey, if that's a thing you wanna be outraged about, go ahead. I can't be bothered.

At least it's not a Bethesda game which is bugged to hell and back unless you install unofficial fan-made patches. Also, no loot boxes.
I think there is no reason for this remastered... A good bugfix update is what dark souls 1 really need (fps fix, mouse camera input fix and keyboard prompts in the tutorial fix).
But if they realease it here than there is a little reason to be interested in this rerelease.

Still if they ask 40€ to anyone that already bought the PTDE is not good. A bugfix should be free for owners.
I will buy this on release day at the full price as long as it releases here on GOG. I refuse to buy it elsewhere. I have never played a single Dark Souls game but I have watched too many gameplay videos. I yearn to play it. Make it happen, GOG.

This is fantastic news!

I've yet to get into DS but I've really wanted to with the only thing holding me back being the HORRIBLE port of DS 1. You know a game has to be good when it receives one of the worst PC ports I've ever seen and still gets an 89% Very Positive review from Steam users.
Are they remastering the controls into something PC (aka keyboard and mouse) friendly as well? If not I won't bother.
