CD PROJEKT RED Partners With Anonymous Content to Develop Live-Action Project

"CD PROJEKT RED, the video game development studio known for its critically acclaimed The Witcher series of games and the best-selling Cyberpunk 2077, is pleased to announce it has begun a collaboration with global media company Anonymous Content to develop a live-action project set in the world of its video game, Cyberpunk 2077.

Anonymous Content is an independent global media company known for producing Emmy-winning series such as True Detective and Mr. Robot, as well as Academy Award-winning films including The Revenant and Spotlight. As part of the collaboration, CD PROJEKT RED is working directly with Anonymous Content Studios’ Head of Television Garret Kemble, Director of Development Ryan Schwartz, and Chief Creative Officer David Levine, an industry veteran who was previously HBO’s EVP and Co-Head of Drama for over 10 years, where he oversaw production of series such as True Detective, Westworld, and True Blood. He was also involved in the production of the early seasons of the Game of Thrones.

Current AC Studios series include Saint X directed by Dee Rees, Shantaram starring Charlie Hunnam, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey starring Samuel L. Jackson and Dominique Fishback, as well as the second season of Random Acts of Flyness. Upcoming series include season four of True Detective starring Jodie Foster, Time Bandits from Taika Waititi, Disclaimer from Alfonso Cuarón, starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline, and Savant, starring Jessica Chastain.

The new project is at an early development stage and has currently commenced searching for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Garrett Kemble, David Levine, Ryan Schwartz, and Bard Dorros will produce on behalf of Anonymous Content alongside Charlie Scully. Anonymous Content’s AC Studios will serve as the studio on the project. The project will be developed in close collaboration with the Cyberpunk 2077 creative team. More information about the project will be made available as the partnership between Anonymous Content and CD PROJEKT RED progresses.

CD PROJEKT RED has had previous successes in adapting the world of its best-selling video game for new mediums, including the critically acclaimed Netflix anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, created in collaboration with Studio Trigger, which went on to win several major awards, including Anime of the Year from IGN and Crunchyroll. In 2023, CD PROJEKT RED released the novel Cyberpunk 2077: NO_COINCIDENCE written by best-selling sci-fi author Rafal Kosik, while the brand-new board game Gangs of Night City is currently in production by the board game publisher CMON."
This sounds like a bad idea, but okay.
Okay.... at least now i don't have to be surprised if i notice a Cyberpunk 2077 thing while scrolling some streaming service on a forgotten evening some years from now.

All jokes aside..... Let's hope this turns out nicely.... and won't see a premature ending!
Well, at least it's not more anime, so there is at least a possibility of it being watchable.

Swedrami: Upcoming series include... Time Bandits from Taika Waititi,
Damn, they're remaking Time Bandits now too? That's just sad. I swear to Crom, if someone tries to remake The Fisher King I may just lose my damn mind and start seeing the Red Knight myself.

I'd rather wait until proper writers, directors, and actors could do the job.

Almost everything hollywood (or otherwise) that's been made in the last 20 years should be thrown in the trash can and wiped clean.

Yeah, it's much too early to generate anything other than...

... "ok."

Get Ridley Scott on-board (or just Scott Free, his prod. co.) or attach Keanu Reeves and maybe this would be worthy of a Press Release, but as-is...?
I'm cautiously optimistic.
I see no point in whining, before the project is done (much less so, as long as it hasn't even started yet).

I remember being cautiously optimistic when Blood Rayne was being filmed... Then i see what we got and felt utter disappointment.

I have little faith in the system right now. Sure we might get something good, but lately nearly everything churned out has not been worth it.

If you've been in or around Hollywood long enough, this kind of press release is just hot air. Now, once the project is written and has talent attached, that's "real." At this point it's no guarantee this will ever get made.

Cautiously optimistic about a movie directed by Uwe Boll??? LOL There's a decent number of good shows being made, but this is just way too early to tell anything. Yes, Anonymous Content produced Mr. Robot (in which the hacking was actually accurate, making it unique amongst TV shows), but the people who made that aren't involved with this one, so that's meaningless.

You know what my dad use to tell me? Want in one hand and poop in the other.

Joking aside, I do agree with you.

I'm terrible with names, actors, directors, all of them, if i remember a name it's because it's repeated enough to be recognized. I've never been that big on watching any movies or shows (and being too poor to go to movies or get movies on DVD/VHS back in the day), so i didn't know who Uwe Boll was, hell i still don't know who he is. I just know the movie came out as dog-shit, and i don't expect the sequels to be any better.

Except the anime was actually good. If you wont watch something because of art style, well sucks to be you. It won best anime of the year and also brought interest back to Cyberpunk 2077 after CDPR colossally botched its release.

Im still hesitant to say anything about this project though. The sci-fi nature with augments is going to naturally increase the price of production which could lead to production skimping out on hiring good writers. Nevermind the fact that Hollywood really hasnt produced anything good for a while. Mike Pondsmith should be heavily involved to make a good show imo (the anime had flaws in terms of lore and storytelling).

Seconded on having Pondsmith involved. A little Disappointed not to see his name nor R. Talsorian mentioned in the Press release

Ridley Scott as a director absolutely, just don't let him near a writer's pen ever again.
