Hmm, first person. Meh... We'll see then.

Caesar.: Excuse my ignorance if this is too obvious (I am relatively new to CRPGs). Isn't it possible to support both first and third person perspective in the same game? The Witcher let you choose three dfferent camera angles (although all of them were third-person perspective).

Would that introduce any gameplay/design problems?
Yea, GTA V gives you the option to either play in 1st or 3rd person, so it's most definitely possible!
I'd actually like to see this being added...

Tintler: I don't understand why peoples upset about FPP. It's their decision, they want to tell us the story in this way.
I'm sure Cd Projekt will deliver us a revolutionary great game.
Personally I highly prefer 3rd person games, because of different things.
The biggest one: I can't play FPP games for more than 30 minutes before getting headaches or nausea...
And that's actually quite a common phenomenon...
3rd person games don't lead to those problems for people who suffer from that.

For me it also works better to experience the game-world (through panning and zooming for example).

There should really be an option for both tbh...other games offer this as well, so it's not a problem to implement...

Hoping the story is involving.... and would like to see some game play... good luck on the project!
It doesn't really look like Cyberpunk aesthetic to me. For one, it's bright day-time (there's a reason Blade Runner was all night-time). More like a futuristic GTA than anything else.

They will have 24h day/night change and the weather system.
1st person makes me nauseous, so that is a deal-breaker for me.
I refuse to login to Google just to watch a game trailer. Is it really that violent?

Me neither. To me it makes sense that a game where the action is swords and shit (Witcher), it is third-person, while where it is more about shooting and aiming (Deus Ex etc.), then FPP.

I am not against either choice though, I guess Skyrim is ok even though it is swords in FPP, and similarly shooting in Spec Ops: The Line is fine in a third-person view.

Really, either way is fine.

I think you can watch it here without the Google login crap.

My thoughts exactly. Anticipation/excitement/hype for the game: zero. Not even going to bother with it now.

StingingVelvet: First person makes me really excited. You guys don't like Fallout New Vegas or Deus Ex? Seems perfect for the setting.
I didn't play Deus Ex precisely because it's first person. I loved FO:NV. Played it entirely in third person (as well as FO3 and FO4).

We're upset because we don't like FPP. Sure, it's their decision, but that doesn't mean we can't be disappointed with it. I was pretty damned excited about this game, but this news just killed it for me. Now I don't give a crap about the game at all. Yes, that's how much I hate FPP.

At least Fallout 3 and Mount & Blade had the ability to switch between 1st and 3rd person view. Maybe this one will have as well?

Since the cut scenes switch to third person, it would seem logical that the engine will support third person, so maybe there will be the possibility. This is a hope I will cling to until it's dashed upon the sharp rocks of despair.

Me neither. I just use a service like https://www.convertinmp4.com/ to dl it instead. The video is just a little over 20MB.
I'm definitely not keen on cameraman view, which I think of as the second person perspective because it's "hey, you, move the camera to the left...hey, you, now move the camera to the right".

In real life I'm moving my eyes left and right, up and down, and that gives me a much larger view of what's around me. That's certainly much more than what I get from looking at a monitor. Include head movement and I can tell what's behind me, too. That's immersive. That's what an avatar positioned in the environment provides, an overall view that simulates the results of eye movements and head movements. Without an avatar there is no sense of peripheral vision, there's no sense of first person position.

In real life I'd be able to feel where I've been hit and know the general direction of the source. If i'm hit from behind, then an avatar allows me to see whether the impact came from the right or left side behind me. That's immersive. That makes up for the lack of sense of touch.

In general, being stuck between the leftside of the monitor and the rightside of the monitor is like looking into a box. Viewing a moving scene feels like watching the news on television, the results from a cameraman. I might as well be flying a drone with a single camera, or be one-eyed like a cyclops.

An avatar provides the confirmation of a first-person position, of where in the environment my body would be. Am I standing? Am I sitting? Am I crouching? Playing the game at the computer, I'm always sitting in real life. There's no feedback of how I'm interacting with the environment in the game when there is no avatar. I can imagine whatever I want from a cameraman's view (t.i. no avatar), but if I'm sitting instead of crouching then I might not be able to move in a game until I guess that.

The view affects the experience. An avatar aids the imagination with feedback not perceived with a cameraman view. If I wanted the experience of a drone-punk, then I would definitely appreciate the cameraman view, the second person perspective.
I'm amused by the people that whine about the perspective. In the end it's just the camera position... The devs already justified their decision: http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/06/12/e3-2018-cyberpunk-2077-cd-projekt-addresses-first-person-backlash

Was there ever such a discussion for any other game? Seems like people nowadays whine about everthing... pathetic

ps: imo the best source for trailers is gamersyde: http://gamersyde.com/news_e3_cyberpunk_2077_new_screens-20171_en.html
