Asked whether the developer is considering the Battle Royale genre for Cyberpunk 2077, Kiciński explained that at the moment they’re considering everything and anything but as of today they’re not discussing the game yet.
So yeah... not really. Rather 'it could be anything!". Still, going to mirror the top reddit comments and say "Why the hell would you even ask that!?". Please let it be single player focused.

I don't understand the hype around Battle Royale games and to be honest I'm thankful for that.
Good thing most reputable devs/publisher don't join a bandwagon that easily. :D

What even is battle royale? Just a fancy name for free for all?

And hasn't that game been in development for years? If they're considering changing genres now that's a really bad sign.

The turn battle royale is taken from a japanese novel called Battle Royale. Its about a bunch of teenagers issued random weapons, droped on some island, and forced to hunt and kill each other in an ever decreasing area. Last one alive goes home.

Um that is weird, you figure they would know what type of game to make by now lol after all years and starting to have an identity crisis with the game now seems like a bad sign.

I hope it's a misunderstanding or simply poorly explained and that it's the multiplayer portion of the game, i don't have an interest in a purely battle royale game though.

So, it could be a racing game for all we know. :P
Actually seen that film, it's quite fun.

As for cyberpunk, the good money is online online, almost all multiplayer, with a tiny demo part as single player - think that fighting game from a few months back (can't remember the name) which had a demo single player but was always online multiplayer in reality.

So basically a standard multiplayer deathmatch round that people have been playing since the 90's?
It's like a Deathmatch with no respawns. You get one life, and when you die, you're out. Last player standing wins, whether they personally killed off everyone else, or hid in a cupboard while everyone else fought then popped out and offed the second-to-last player standing.

Yeah, reading "they’re considering everything and anything" at this stage doesn't sound good. It doesn't sound good even if it is just about the multi player part of the game. I think my enthusiasm fo C2077 mostly evaporated over the years, sort of like Avengers Infinity War. Hype may be good for business short term, but with a wait this long it almost starts to work in reverse.

I agree. I don't care about the multiplayer part of the game, since I'll most likely never play it, but reading they still haven't decided what they want to do with it makes me fear the worst about this game's development.

Personally, I think they announced the game way too soon, when it was barely more than a concept on paper. CD Projekt may be able to make great games, but they could use some lessons about proper marketing imo.

Anyway, I guess we'll only be able to judge Cyberpunk after it's released, but this kind of interview makes me seriously wary about how it'll turn out...

I care in the sense that at this point I don't think it'sat all certain if it will be possible to entirely ignore the multiplayer aspect of the game since we know basically nothing about it (and neither does CDPRed apparently :P)

I think they got carried away riding the wave of the Witcher 3 hype. I wouldn't be surprised if they themselves regrett that premature announcement now.
I believe they stated hat it will be mostly a single player game with a posibility of some co op play but it will be mainly ocused on solo content
I just hope it has an extensive character creation system. Cyberpunk 2020 has so many options to choose from that it'd really suck to be stuck with a premade character.
