As others have said, there are games that can be run without the launcher. I even tested a few in a computer that never had Prime Gaming installed and they worked, too.
And besides that, some games even include ROMs, which can be played anywhere you want, as long as you have a way to play them (e.g. emulators).

borisburke: I take it you can't run the games without the app? And if your prime subscription lapses, 'your' games become unplayable?
13ison: I think at least some of the games are drm free and can be launched from a backup of the program folder once downloaded. DosFreak made a list of the ones they found that worked that way. https://www.gog.com/forum/general/amazon_prime_games_and_drm/post8 Worth noting this list is likely outdated since more games have been added since then.
