As others have said, there are games that can be run without the launcher. I even tested a few in a computer that never had Prime Gaming installed and they worked, too.

And besides that, some games even include ROMs, which can be played anywhere you want, as long as you have a way to play them (e.g. emulators).

It does include them. I haven't played them, but if you've got a prime membership, then yes, they're worth getting. Reviews seem quite positive.

Amazon have really stepped up their game in recent months for the Prime giveaways.

Didn't play it either, but the GOG version should be the best version being sold currently, since there's no need to use launchers to download unlike on Epic, and the game isn't botched like on Steam.

Besides, it's super cheap. Worth dropping a few bucks for it for the price alone, if the game turns out to be just average.

Prime Gaming is not a streaming service and neither are the games handled like in subscription based systems like EA Play/GamePass or whatever they are called. After you redeem a game, you can still play it even when you're unsubscribed. You do need to run the client, like with Steam or Epic etc., although I hear some games are not dependent on the client for playing either and are technically DRM-free (after installation through the client, that is, similar to how games on Steam can be "DRM-free").

Also, in this case, you actually get a GOG key for Control.

I'm not trying to say Prime gaming is a good thing though. It exists, and those are the rules. Just clarifying what they actually are. What you make of them and how you judge it is up to you.

Personally, I do not see it as paying for games so much as paying for a month of watching Prime Video and getting games (that I can keep) as a bonus. I certainly don't value the games as highly as ones bought from GOG. The reason why I asked whether it's worth it is that I'm not in a hurry to continue watching Prime Video *this* month (but I will, some month, eventually).

From what I read, you keep having access to Amazon's games you already claimed if you stop subscribing. And it seems most Amazon games are DRM free once downloaded, so you don't need to bother with the launcher after downloading the games.

Meanwhile, Netflix & such are mainly streaming-focused and, at most, download local files that are encrypted, have a killswitch and only work if launched through their proprietary app.

While not yet ideal, to me it feels like Amazon is the lesser devil of the two and that it is more or less at the same level of Steam when it comes to DRM and such.

It's not ideal, but you can look at it differently with these recent promotions.

You can think of all that as a discount code for the month's GOG game, and once you stop Amazon subscription, you can still keep the games.

As an additional bonus, if you pay for one month subscription, you get access to some movies and TV shows in streamable format for 30 days.

Of course it's all business on their side, very calculated, but if you calculate it on customer's side too, it's not a bad deal at all. The only problem is the same as with Steam, you need to give some money to a business model that you don't agree with. You can also think that by redeeming the GOG code you are indirectly supporting DRM-free games. Whether that encourages Amazon to have more DRM-free content in the future is another matter, but presumably they are at some level counting how successful those GOG codes are.

Prime Gaming used to be amazing years ago when it was gifting all those good Android games every day without any subscription required!
Now there are many good pc games too and you can keep them, and if you can't or don't want to pay you probably have some friend who are using Prime Video and don't care for the key and will gift it to you.
As for Control, it was already free on Epic.
