I take it you can't run the games without the app? And if your prime subscription lapses, 'your' games become unplayable?

Games claimed during prime periods are owned for good!

Regarding bypassing the launcher after first downloading the games actually no idea but apparently some of the games work by just getting launched from their program folder (i have no clue if it's 1% , 5% or 80% or whatever of the games though)

I think at least some of the games are drm free and can be launched from a backup of the program folder once downloaded. DosFreak made a list of the ones they found that worked that way. https://www.gog.com/forum/general/amazon_prime_games_and_drm/post8
