I figured it's about time that there was a thread for fans of cult films Horror, Sci-fi, B-movies, Old school arthouse(Telephone Book, Death Bed the Bed that eats, Thundercrack!) , Exploitation and it's many sub-genres like Blaxsploitation, Nazisploitation, White coders, Sleaze flicks, ect.

Be you a collector, a fan or just have a passing interest in the strange, the bizzare, the hilariously bad, the sleazy, the horrific and so on. I want this to be the thread for you and were you can talk about these kinds of films be it something you just watched, a long time favorite, some cool new re-release from Vinegar Syndrome, Synapse, Scream Factory, Blue Underground, GrindHouse Releasing, Introvision or a mostly forgotten gem you want more people to know about, a recent addition to your collection and so on with other like minded individuals.

Like for example, I recently got back into collecting horror, cult and exploitation films after getting tired of the retro gaming collecting scene and had gotten a few obscure gems such as Blackenstein, Dr. Black and Mr. Hyde, Thundercrack!, The original Flesh Gordon as well as the long out of print Anchor Bay release of Dario Argento's Phenomena(and for a hell of a good price too) to name a few.

I thought the original Flesh Gordon was a soft core porno.

The first film that came to mind: Fire and Ice. Does it count?
It's got a horrendous story, but it's worth watching for the visuals alone.

It's more of a raunchy, classic 30s-50's sci-fi spoof that is a cult film. A softcore porn would be like the Emanuel films or the X-rated non-hardcore cut of Alice in Wonderland a X-rated Musical.

Yes Fire and Ice counts as a Cult film. A cult film is generally a film that doesn't have a large main stream fan base and instead has a smaller, more devoted one. I was just listing a few of the more traditional cult film genres like Horror, Arthouse and Exploitation.

It looked great, but they really should have redesigned Darkwolf to not look so much like Batman the Barbarian. I remember hearing there's going to be a live action remake, which is just about the dumbest thing possible - take a movie with poor plot and great animation, and remove the animation.
In that case I think I can confidently say that my all-time favorite cult film is this.

It's the exception though. Mostly I love weird and beautifully done animation, eg Fire and Ice and the always badass film Heavy Metal. The only other Ralph Bakshi film that I've tried is , but I didn't find much to like about it. I still want to check out [url=http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068612/?ref_=tt_rec_tt]Fritz the Cat and LoTR.

Fritz the cat hasn't aged well, if you take it in the context it was made it's not bad but there are alot of old obvious jokes that are a product of it's era like the cops being all Pigs, Black Crows, ect.

Oh anyone else seen Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers? It's pretty hilarous in the cheap b-movie that you would catch on late night Cinemax or USA Up All Night kinda way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R78TB5t4g0 Recently got that on Blu Ray.

It was. :-)

Moral of the story: Don't mix up Flesh Gordon with Flash Gordon. ;-)

X'D Honestly I didn't get that much of a batman vibe from him, but perhaps I will next time.

And yeah, a live action remake is dumb, but I don't think that it's totally impossible to create an awesome film based around the idea of an elemental fire vs ice conflict.

Having seen the movie, it's no more a softcore porn then a Troma film at least in my opnion. Porno Holocaust or Vampyre Lesbos or any of the Emanuel films sure since they are more softcore sex then movie.

What about Cannibal Holocaust? Cult Film?

Curiously, tt started out as a hardcore porno, but once they started adding all the stop-motion effects, the makers decided to cut down the explicit content.

According to the trivia section of the Internet Movie Database on Flesh Gordon:

Hardcore sequences were seized by police in a raid. The director was forced to view the film in the judge's chambers and all hardcore material was removed.

Oh yeah, it's a sub genre of Exploitation known as Jungle Cannibalsploitation same with films like The Man from deep River, Cannibal ferox aka Make them Die Slow, Last Cannibal World, Emanuel and the last cannibals, ect.
