Haven't seen Flash Gordon yet, but the music is cleary awesome, and I love this larger-than-life actor:
https://youtu.be/SBe1hwg7V-M?t=136
The first thing I saw him in was the 1st season of Black Adder
I wonder if Flesh Gordon served as inspiration for Leather Goddesses of Phobos (and to some degree for Rex Nebular?)

tinyE: What about Cannibal Holocaust? Cult Film?
avatar
DCT: Oh yeah, it's a sub genre of Exploitation known as Jungle Cannibalsploitation same with films like The Man from deep River, Cannibal ferox aka Make them Die Slow, Last Cannibal World, Emanuel and the last cannibals, ect.
Cool! I own that! XD
I also have the original Faces of Death but that really hasn't aged well. The nightly news is way more disturbing now than that movie ever was.

I don't think there are any mondo movies that have aged well.

DCT: Having seen the movie, it's no more a softcore porn then a Troma film at least in my opnion. Porno Holocaust or Vampyre Lesbos or any of the Emanuel films sure since they are more softcore sex then movie.

Geralt_of_Rivia: According to the trivia section of the Internet Movie Database on Flesh Gordon:

Hardcore sequences were seized by police in a raid. The director was forced to view the film in the judge's chambers and all hardcore material was removed.
Really? Because according to the commentary on the DVD there were never any hardcore scenes. espcially since by that time you had films like Deep Throat, Devil in Miss Jones and Behind the Green door which established the right of non "educational" pronographic films also known as the White Coders as before the Deep Throat case made pornographic films legal exploitation film directors were able to skirt the then decency laws by having their pronographic films classified as educational films, basically all they did was have someone claim to be a educator or a doctor and narrate the hardcore scenes these became known as the white coders. But Flesh Gordon was made and releases in 1974, the Deep Throat case which allowed for actual pronographic films to be shown and began the short lived "Porn Chiche era" in the 70's happened in 1972-73.

But yeah the whole hardcore cut of Flesh Gordon is a urban legend

I love Brain Blessed. He's my favourite kind of actor, he can be runny a ridiculous in cheesy sci-fi one time, and deliver fantastic shakespearian drama the next. In my imaginary casting he will always be the perfect Thorin Oakenshield.

But yeah lately I been on a bit of a Blaxploitation kick with films like

Dr. Black and Mr. Hyde https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6lztwNQLDY
Blackenstein the Black Frankenstein, Sugar Hill, Dolemite, Disco Godfather, Super Fly and I just ordered Boss aka Boss N***** which is a Blaxsploitation Spaghetti Western https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWDTw7IjeiI and Supersoul Brother which is a Blaxsploitation send up of the 6 million dollar man.

But nothing will top the pure weirdness of Welcome Home, Brother Charles aka Soul Vengance mainly for this one scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgAG_FZUFf0

Have a few others coming in with those like The Phantom of the Paradise, the uncut version of Thriller: A Cruel Picture and The Playmates meet the Vampire.

Jeez. That one costs about 7€ on Amazon.de, while the DVD for Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is insanely expensive there.

sadly the company that is distributing the US release is charging a arm and a leg, My copy of Ilsa She Wolf of the SS cost me less. Granted it was a region free import.
Why has nobody mentioned the early Peter Jackson movies yet? Braindead (aka Dead Alive), Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles are basically the definition of cult classics.

Dead Alive is actually one of those movies that are outright banned in Germany; and I only managed to get my hands on an uncut VHS tape of the film. There is a freely availabe version on DVD, but that one is missing- among many, many other parts- the entirety of the lawnmower scene, which is even mocked by the description on the back of the box of that release.
