ErekoseDM: i PM'd em to see what the verdict was potentially.

they did mention Steam as their focus, and im not going to dive in to back a Steam exclusive.
they do mention Desura as a 'DRM-free channel' but Desura also sells games that only generate a Steam key.
The reply I got is that they needed to get to know more about GOG, but they appear set on a DRM-free release as they seem to consider desura a DRM-free only. Which is incorrect as we just saw, but we can't expect people who don't know GOG to know any better.

just finished reading your wall of text over there ^_^

and watching that 2nd video they had.
about 30 seconds of gameplay/ what they want it to be linear and non-linear stages at 3:50 i think.

damn youse pineapple! your getting me more interested in Pale Blue. ^_^

Niggles: The problem for devs on Kickstarter when it comes to GOG is, there is no guarantee GOG will even sell once its completed (ie if the game turns out to be shit and doesnt meet the GOG criteria, what do you think the likelihood of getting a gogkey as a KS backer for a project? -- not very high at all - hell some devs never heard of GOG and even worse some are blinkered where its Steam or nothing)- so i guess in a way its a hard call. Having said that, they *should* be able to at least confirm if DRM free *before* a project closes --- it doesnt happen in a number of cases and people wanting DRM free dont get it cause dev either thinks its too hard/scared of game being spread around the internet... the usual crap.
its always a russian doll's stack of questions all in an "if then" scenario for KS project creators.

if you succeed in getting funded
then>
if your game is DRM-free
then>
if your game actually gets completed
then>
if its not rubbish and can get past Atlas the GOG bear gatekeeper
then>
if the KS creator will get / distro GOG keys to the KS backers
then>
! success!

get totally get they cant 'promise' that backers will get GOG keys.
but should they be able to x-wing Death Star through all those hurdles they could offer up assurances for those instances.

P1na: Seriously, I don't know why I'm fixated on this game today. Normally don't care so much about them, I mean I have hundreds I could be actually playing instead of investigating something that might be good to play next year.
Have you considered backing The Universim? :)

I'm getting me more interested! I didn't particularly care when I first posted, and just wanted to read other people have this same conversation a few days from now, when the research was complete.

I honestly think they don't have much gameplay as of yet. Release date is late 2015, so they probably don't have a working prototype to make anything other than very limited examples. I did actually go and read their pitch, and it seems like you'll be able to control different characters, with the green "failed experiment" girl for stealth sections and the mook having the ability to summon other mooks. That's a bit underwhelming for me, I'd rather play as 1 character and choose if I want to be stealthy or outright massacre everybody instead of being forced to play one way or the other depending on who the character I'm given on a particular level is.

No. But I didn't know of it either, and I thought the thread would be some philosophy stuff I wasn't in the mood to read. I'll have a look.

It's a good thing that my meeting just got canceled. Or rather, that it got reduced to a 1minute "show me fast because I gotta catch a train".

I must say, it's kinda fun trying to figure this out. I'll bring this to the comments and see if something falls from it.

BTW, I think I figured out why I was specially interested on this game: the devs are Indonesian and I not only know people from there, I had a great time when I visited. So I probably felt like supporting them a bit.
Well, posted another wall of text over there asking about gameplay, let's see what reply we get. I guess there's little more to do at the moment, but while I was writing the KS comment I kept thinking about things that could be really nice to have on this game. It seems to have a tower defense mechanic on it, I'm guessing for the mook who summons other mooks. Will there be an update system for those too? Will there be ability trees where you can make the character grow on the parts you enjoy more? Maybe you can switch among different characters at will, like in trine! Or have stages where you control 2 characters simultaneously and have to switch from one to the other, like that horrible boss fight in Unepic I still haven't beaten. You could be allowed to switch characters when one is on a hiding spot or the other hardens to be impervious to damage while you're controlling the other. My main worry with that mechanic would be that it risks a coop focus, and I don't like multiplayer all that much.

And yet, so many things that could go wrong. Will I have to be forced to choose between upgrading the main character or the mook, and if I don't upgrade one of them (because I don't like them, perhaps) their stages will get harder, making me hate them more until I rage quit? Will the narrative focus make the game itself too easy, so as not to frustrate players who just want to get to the next story segment? Or will it be hard and frustrate players who just want to get to the next story segment? Sure, a good difficulty option would fix that, but it's been a while since I saw that on a platformer. That's another one how will it place on the scale between a platformer and a sidescrolling beat'em up? Will they force us to repeat the whole game over and over again to see the different endings? This can be good if there's a good amount of variety during gameplay, but if it's completely linear it will be boring as hell.

pff... so many questions, so few answers. And I doubt the devs themselves have decided on a lot of them.
A sequel for Kaptain Brawe:
Kaptain Brawe 2: A Space Travesty - a Steve Ince story
Seems like I got a reply, they cleared out some stuff. I don't have time to calmly think about it now, and I probably won't really care all that much tomorrow, but it's there in the comments.

Basically, 3 playable characters that are enforced per level, with basic stealth for all. A skill system based on a tree unlockable with points. And a visual novel styled story with some a or b choices, but they'll try to make the way you play have some impact. I suppose they'll treat you differently if you kill everybody you meet or kill as little as possible.

All in all, seems reasonable for the first "big" project of an indie studio. They promissed more gameplay stuff on future updates, so we'll see.
This is interesting. It's a campaign to bring the lost Keen episode, Keen Dreams, re-released legally, and possibly on GOG and Steam:

Hey there!

I'm Dru from Bootsnake Games. We're working on Deadrock Divide which is up on Kickstarter right now. (I can't post links here for some reason. first post ever probably?)

Some of you guys in here backed it already, thanks a ton for your support!

If you have any questions about the game, the studio, our KS, or anything, we'd love to answer anything.

Have a great one!

I don't really get the point of this. Keen Dreams is a shareware game, you can already download it for free (legally). It would make more sense if they were trying to get Aliens Ate My Babysitter re-released, that one hasn't been available for the better part of two decades!

Keen Dreams is shareware, but theres also a registered version which is not.
True Blue does look good. I'm also a little hesitant because they're not showing much. But the storyline looks good to me and anything with the word "RPG" deserves a good once-over in my books1 ;)
Dead Rock, I'm not so sure about. Flying spaceships round has never really been my cup of tea, and although the graphics look nice, I think I'll pass on this.
I've bookmarked them both though, and at the 48hr mark, if I haven't already pledged, I'll give them another look and see if any additional updates help me decide.
