Been trying to work out what type of game this exactly is. FPS + light RPG (doesn't seem to have many elements) + adventure.

There is seriously nothing funny. It's their first kickstarter, they're making a physical product with stretch goals, it's a tremendous fundraising/PR success, and they won't know what to do with all this money. I hope none of the creators will have to sleep under a bench as a result.

Okay, how the hell do boardgames get so much funds?! Is playing them on the rise again?! :D

And damn, so many interesting games (most of them RPGs) going on KS at the same time...one cannot simply back them all. At least if you aren't rich :P

Great to hear Consortium is coming along well, almost backed the game, but was out of money. Will surely buy it when it's out on GOG!

Especially After Reset sounds interesting, but with W2 coming out and it being relatively expensive and being developed by an unkown guy, it doesn't have good chances to get kickstarted.

You do have to wonder whether the devs are really genuine. I find it odd such a high fund with a small goal.

The good thing about board games is that they're a lot simpler than video games. A lot (most?) of the money goes to fulfillment, and the stretch goals are mainly art plus rules, nothing like new game systems or new platforms.

Because of this I imagine they should be able to produce a good result (at least as good as if they had just reached the goal). Unless they go crazy and start buying fast cars and fast women....

I backed Lords of Xulima. It's a weird mix of ideas, but it looks really fun. Check out the design articles on the web site. They have a pretty broad range of influences, and it looks like they've put a lot of thought into how to temper OLD-school gameplay with just enough modern thinking. I'm not sure why it isn't doing better, but at least they're meeting some of their goals. I'm really hoping they hit the $30k mark for the extended content, at least.

Um nope. if your videogame overfunds and was budgeted at all better than Your World, you just do what you were going to do and rake in the profits. Digital products scale well, that's the whole point. Even if you planned to host the installer in your dropbox and email people the link and now you have to build a storefront for backers so that everyone could start playing within the same decade, you can just go ahead and pay for that. You're only screwed if you go money crazy and off rails DF-style.

If your physical product overfunds and was budgeted well for the anticipated volume, you may still be fucked by the volume alone. That's why NeoLucida sold out on Day 1: they threw their hands up and said, "Nope, this is the volume we're willing to handle, you can still donate two bux and get preferential treatment from our mass-market partners." (They still budged eventually, but not as much as they could have, and that's why their funding curve looks like this.)

Lol, the hypocrisy. At least one other game isn't going to get made any time soon because of the "professional" behavior of some people there. Paul Trowe may be a hateful asshole, but holy shit, if you have a problem with people, call them out instead of gossiping behind their backs. Fuck this incestuous slushpit.

I always tend to bookmark the more interesting games (in my opinion, of course), because I don't always have the money to back them and I'm interested in their progress. 2014/2015 will be a great year for KS RPGs for sure!
