o.O
What does it mean "retrofuturistic"? Do they explain it? Or is it just me being stupid and not understanding generally accepted terms? (genuine question!)

"The word "retrofuturism," combines more recent ideas of nostalgia and retro with older traditions of futurism."

I suppose we could perhaps define concepts like Steampunk and Dieselpunk as being "Sci-Fi Retrofuturism".

Could "pixel art" be considered Retrofuturistic as well?

Oh, so if I understand it correctly Fallout games are retrofuturistic as well?

Everything in sci-fi that takes design aesthetics from the past, like the 50's, is retrofuturistic. Funnily enough, Alien Isolation is retrofuturistic, as it takes its design from the 1970's.

Yes.

It looks nice. Unfortunately, when I checked it at the start of their campaign, a drm-free version of the game wasn't mentioned anywhere. That didn't change. And their previous game, another kickstarter named Goetia got release without a drm-free version that I know of.

Just a couple of reminders for two projects that are ending soon and could really use some support:

<span class="bold">Arcadian Atlas</span>
This 16-bit tactical RPG is a true love letter to games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Shining Force. It is being developed by a brother-sister combo of indie developers who are bringing their love of SNES-era games to life through this project. The videos and artwork provided on the campaign page are quite impressive. With only 4 days left and around $45,000 to go, this game definitely needs a massive push to make their goal. The devs have not confirmed what distributors will carry the game, but they have said it will be available DRM-Free wherever they can host it.

<span class="bold">Ghost Theory</span>
The developers who made 2D Cyberpunk RPG Dex are looking to expand into the world of 3D horror gaming. This game looks incredibly solid for the early state it is in and the fact that it is going to be using real-world haunted locations is extremely cool. The devs have 9 days to raise 16,000 GBP; a very achievable goal. However, the devs have made it clear that, if this game does not fund, it will not happen. This is their second attempt to kick-start this game and they cannot afford to try a third time. DRM-Free versions will be available, as well as PS4 and XBone. VR-support will also be included. Treat the paranormal investigator inside you by backing this campaign!
fuck it fuck it fuck it fuck everything fuck the universe

...There's DRM on this thing. I'm sorry, I can't even.

Starmaker: [snip]
That's a shame. Being on the DRM-Free side of the fence, my opinion may be slightly skewed, but I honestly don't understand why an indie developer would limit the amount of people who can buy their game by offering them exclusively through Steam. I know that the amount of people who only buy games that are DRM-Free is a small percentage of the gaming population, but I still don't see why you wouldn't want the money that group would likely give.

I assume you misclicked, because I'd linked to a DRM-ed tortilla maker (which made twice the target in a couple of days and is a "project we love").

...

When Jason Scott wrote about the upcoming "autumn of kickstarter", I thought he'd be wrong that one time because daww kickstarter is the bestest thing evar zomg artistic freedom so adorbs im an early adopter how dare you doubt perfection! There have been always scams on kickstarter, but both scams and legitimate projects were presented as something one would want to give money to. DRM-free videogames, movie projects which actually gave you a copy of said movie, open hardware that you were encouraged to tinker with, none of that early bird bullshit (I mean, everyone pays at exactly the same moment, isn't it the basic idea?) Sigh.
