I've written asking about DRM-free, so far no answer. They've not answered a person who asked about it in the comments section either.

I believe the KS campaign is at too early stage to declare possible DRM restrictions... Probably it will be sorted out later, depending on the success of the campaign. Anyway, if it's declared as DRM-free right now, I can support it.

Just got an answer from them as to whether there will be a DRM-free release. In its entirety:

yes we hope so.

So the will is there, but as you say, they seem to be too soon in the process to know for certain. I suspect a cross-media product like this will probably be snapped up by a DRM-happy publisher, but maybe not. It's good at least that the devs want to go DRM-free, so I may back them and take a chance they win out.

That game and the transmedia concept is fucking kewl too (well, aside from all the extra you get from one medium to another and so on). I like their enthusiasm and their idealism.

But I don't really know if the'll be successful. They're not known well enough...they deserve more coverage though!

Asked them about DRM too!
HBS recently stated in the comments for their Shadowrun: Hong Kong Kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/webeharebrained/shadowrun-hong-kong/ that they plan to sell the game for $20 at launch... So if anyone was wondering what's the incentive to back now rather than just purchasing it when it comes out... you'll save *at least* $5. Also, if the $1million stretch goal is unlocked, you'll get the mini-campaign DLC (which will be released a few months after the main campaign) for free.

Nice! That must have just happened! It's such an awesome feeling to see a project you back make its goal, especially when it does so with only a few days to spare. I am so happy for those guys and am looking forward to how the game takes shape over the coming year. Yay!

They have a more detailed reply in their FAQ now on the subject. Sounds like it's still up in the air, but the devs themselves favour the DRM-free approach. Though if their funding pace doesn't pick up, it may be moot.

That's good news, at least they're thinking about it.

But that's my fear too, that they won't make it.
Seaworthy

Windwalkers, the game

An ACTION RPG for PC, single/multi-player with co-op, set in a new sci-fi and fantasy world where you have to survive.
Three Monkeys - Part 1: Into the Abyss

Three Monkeys is a fantasy RPG that looks to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with audio in games. The game puts players in the shoes of Tobar: a blind hero who embarks on a journey through a dark, cursed land, where the sun has been ripped out the sky.
Sounds like a really cool project. But "Part 1"? Kiss Of Death, that.
