Their response on DRM-free status:

We'll launch the game on Steam(PC, Mac and Linux). We can also provide DRM- free versions for all our backers.

Sounds like a one-time DRM-free download from the publisher, and no clue as to how one would get patches or later versions. Pass.
Bedlam stuck the following into their FAQ about DRM free:

"Would you be offering DRM-Free copies as pledge/add-on for backers that might request them?

It’s just the three of us working on BEDLAM, and while we will eventually be considering all possible options and platforms, our initial focus is PC and Mac release through Steam. After funding is complete and the game’s development is well underway, other formats (DRM-free, iOS, GoG, physical box and disk, etc.) will be explored!
"

Way to dance around giving an answer. Ill pass on this one.

Great excuse, too. "We're a small team, so integrating DRM while building the game is an easier route than just building the game." Sort of like "We don't have enough people to build a shed, so we're going to build a house."
I was looking at that one too. Seems interesting, as long as I can play it without the headset. :)

See, this is something that I also dislike - the DRM-free option only for backers and no commitment for the public release.

I have a further response from the devs behind Black The Fall on this issue:

We will be on Humble and GOG. We'll launch it on Steam too because we have been green-lit there. We didn't sign any agreement that binds us with any publisher. So Black will be available DRM-free too.

If you're wondering why they mention Humble and GOG by name (since I'm sure they don't have a contract with GOG already), it's because in my earlier message I wrote "Without an established DRM-free supply chain (such as a vendor like GOG or Humble) to get patches and later version through, it's not really something I can back then."

So they seem eager to assure that a DRM-free version will be available, but I'm not certain that they know exactly what form it will take. Especially since they think GOG is a lock. :)

I believe you can but do not quote me on that :)

I didn't wonder for a second, was pretty sure that it was because you named them in your message. ;-)

Sounds like they're making it up as they go, just anxious to get as many people as possible on board. Doesn't hit the right notes with me.

gandalfnho: Turn-based strategy game where the player assumes the role of an ancient being who was sealed away in ages past but has now returned to reclaim dominion over the world:

Randomly read about this one today, IMO one of the most promising Kickstarters I've seen in a long time! And the campaign seems to be going very well, already more than 200% funded with ~3 weeks left. :)

Agreed! I've backed it at the "create an event" level. It's an exciting premise and one I hope is properly realised and executed.

Awesome! Not sure about the quarter-of-a-million goal though. Seems like that would be really tempting to abscond with. :)

Got to love ST Joshi correcting everyone on how to pronounce Cthulhu :)

I guess I need to get around to playing Scratches one of these days.
