nijuu: Me neither. It does seem a very linux focused project and unless the mobile itself turns out to be fabulous i cant see anyone except linux fans or people who like gadgets buying in.. yes 830 is a bit steep....
They added limited tiers starting at $625 and pledges are going up quickly again. $625 is a lot more reasonable. It's a decent price for a high end phone.

I have to say it's tempting, but only because I'm such a geek and the concept has appeal to me. 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, it would really feel like a PC in my pocket. But I know I won't use it much and won't like it as a phone (because it's big). I'll just wait to see how this develops and I guess I'll buy a phonetop eventually if these things catch on.
Satellite Reign has reached it's £350,000 initial funding goal with ~4 days remaining.

Strech Goals:
£380,000 - Syndicate series composer Russell Shaw joins the team
£400,000 - Localisation/translation to French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian and Czech
£440,000 - Enviromental destruction
and so forth

Petrell: Ubuntu Edge smart phone project at Indiegogo is probably largest crowd-funding project in history of crowd-funding with the goal of whopping 32 MILLION DOLLARS (over 3,7 million raised with 29 days to go).
OHMYGAWD DO WANT! Except I'm broke, and the next payment I get is already earmarked toward buying a gift for a wonderful lady. I'll probably be in for $20. And I'll eat another $20 live on cam if Canonical doesn't deliver if funded.

edit: largest serious crowdfunding project. There have been joke projects for more.

htown1980: Is it just me or does that game look a heap like Eschalon... like heaps like Eschalon... like it's almost like the took the art style from Eschalon and made a different game with it...

anyone?
Let's see...
minimalistic graphics...check
isometric view...check
turn-based combat
humanoid playing characters...check
familiar monster types...check
familiar spells...check
etc..etc..etc..

Oh my god...scandal!!! Get the lawyers and go after them from using some proofen concept which was used countless times before.

So what?
There's a difference between inspired and true copying. If everything which looks familiar could not be even remotely being re-used then we would still live in caves.

Well that was a surprisingly defensive response that also managed to miss the point of my post.

To explain, it almost looks to me like the art style is identical to that in Eschalon. By that I don't mean they both have isometric view, familiar monster types and spells, etc. I don't see how anyone could think that familiar art style could be interpreted as familiar spells but here we are...

What I mean is, the graphics look eerily similar, like the grass, the trees, the walls, the rocks, the objects almost look like they have been taken directly out of Eschalon (I am guessing they haven't because someone smarter than me would have made that accusation by now). What got me was the spell animations. Watching the fireball type spell in the demo was like I was playing Eschalon again.

The spiderweb games and Eschalon have similar graphics, isometric view, monster types, spells, etc, but to me they don't look anything alike.

I appreciate that there is a difference between inspired and true copying. I was just wondering which side of the line this game fell on.

Seriously how many people are going to be able to afford it in this economic climate?. People who like their toys and can afford it :/

Millions of people buy high end phones. Samsung was disappointed with Galaxy S4 sales when they reached "only" 20 million. Getting 40k people to buy a high end phone is not a problem. Getting them to pay up front for a phone from a company which hasn't made a phone before, and which isn't stressing the normal features, is another issue altogether. I think it's possible, but they might have to stick to a ~$700 per unit price to get it done. We'll have to wait and see.

I imagine depends on the country though. Not everyone can afford a $700+ phone outright. We have seemingly lot of ipHone and samsung galaxy owners, but i would hazard to guess majority of them are on some form of plan and pay a much lower upfront cost for the handset.... thats the way most telcos work over here anyways..

Good point. I still think enough people buy high end stuff outright, be that a $500+ graphics card, a high end TV or a phone. Many people do have the money, but it's possible that they're more careful with it these days.

Oh, I'm sure there's enough people who can affort it (even I could but I rather buy <100$ phone and spend rest on computer) but are there enough people willing to buy their smart phone from Canonical (funny that this is first time I ever heard of it despite it apparently being the company behind Ubuntu :-p) and how many of those are willing to use Indiegogo to do so. If this was (US) Kickstarter, their changes would be much higher as Indiegogo userbase is fraction of Kickstarter userbase. I was actually quite surprised how well they've done so far considering how many projects asking 0,1% or less of the Ubuntu Edge funding have been strugling to gain funding on Indiegogo.
Another interesting project:
DwarfCorp, a lighthearted simulation game in which you manage a colony of ruthless capitalist Dwarves. Explore, exploit, and profit!

Shadowrun Returns is finally released and Legends of Aethereus is already available to purchase too (in GreenManGaming at the moment)
