Galaxy Defenders - The Earth Strikes Back! boardgame

It's a Board Game, but it's the closest I've ever played to X-Com on the tabletop. I backed the original game blindly, and would have been kicking myself if I missed it. The Kickstarter is an AMAZING deal with how many miniatures it comes with and there's some exclusive molds as well (characters like T-800's and a Darth Maul look a like) that won't be available in retail after the fact.

Check it out, and let me know if you have any questions.

Move over Goat Simulator! There's a new kit in town!

Catlateral Damage! The game that lets you tap into your inner cat and catch mice, chase red lasers, sleep in boxes and knock valuable possessions off of counters and shelves while your owner is away.

I have no idea why I find this idea compelling, but their donation tiers are very modest and the game could really be the next meaningless animal simulator that the world never knew they wanted. Let's make this happen!

oh, seems like pale blue made it. Congrats to them.

I was surprised to see Kaiju a gogo (or however it's called) fail, though.

Don't put visual novel and a 3 letter acronym starting with F right next to an picture of Archer! You made my heart skip a beat!

Kaiju-a-gogo kickstarter campaign failed, so they decided to try luck at indiegogo now:

Is it just me or does kickstarter's heyday seem to be long gone?
Maybe for video games... Or people are just waiting to see the results of the highly funded kickstarters.

You're probably right. I mean, you can only back so many games before you also want to see something come out of it.
This year Divinity: Original Sin, Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity are coming out, which were some of the bigger KS projects.

After their success (which I hope they'll have, at least), maybe there'll be more high-profile RPGs/Videogames again.
Wasn't there a rumour Obsidian would be going to KS again?

It's not a rumour. It's official.
PC Gamer: Obsidian's next Kickstarter to launch hopefully this year, an RPG based on a "cool idea"

Hell yeah, we should open a thread about this just to speculate about the new game xD

But it's interesting to read what Obsidian's planning. They said they could see also having a non-isometric Eternity game (which I wouldn't say no to, but the more hardcore fans? Hmm...). And a new Star Wars RPG would be cool too, but these are game that will need bigger funding, so yeah, they'll need a publisher for it :/

So I hope that this new Kickstarter they're talking about will be some SF RPG or something. Or even Alpha Protocol 2, like the author of the article hopes for (though I haven't played AP yet).

Guess this will be a must-back project (at least for me...though it'll still depend what it is).

I can't see it being AP2 or a Star Wars game. For one thing, my understanding is they don't actually own the AP IP, and of course Star Wars is owned by Disney. If the IP holders of those games wanted to make sequels, I doubt they'd have whatever developer they chose to do it go the Kickstarter route (as you noted, they'd have publisher money behind them). I've got to think this will be something all their own, much in the vein of Project Eternity.

On a side note, I personally wouldn't want a non-isometric Eternity game, since the isometric aspect is one of the reasons I backed the project in the first place.

Yeah, whatever Obsidian does it will have to be their own IP since EA has an exclusive on Star Wars, and they're still forcing SWTOR as KotOR 3/4/5/6/blah. Sega owns the AP IP and I think they've given up on it. It could be a spiritual successor sort of AP game, but I'm not sure I'd go for it in an isometric game. A Sci-fi RPG would be pretty cool since we don't really get many of those for RPGs.

But that's just what I was saying: for those kind of games they'd need a publisher/IP owner who appoaches them.

For a Kickstarter, they'd probably roll out an own IP.
