SpikedSoul: I love that game, the only puns I can stand.
I guess you don't like being 'pun'-ished? (I have seen two video games use this joke.)

I haven't played that game. (Also, to be clear, I am not talking about that "cold shoulder" pun.)

The two games I've seen the pun I am talking about are Dragon Warrior 7 (PSX) and Final Fantasy 5 Advance (GBA), both in the English translation. (The Japanese versions *do* have jokes, I believe, but many are untranslatable.)

Reminds me of another one:
In Final Fantasy Legend 2 (English version, as the Japanese version had an untranslatable bilingual joke here), there's a bird in a classroom that says something like "HELLO, I AM LEARNING TO SPEAK ENGLISH", according to https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gameboy/585710-final-fantasy-legend-ii/faqs/29802 .)

oh, you were referencing the 'pun'ishment :D (well, I am not necessarily inclined to discuss my preferences on a GOG forum ;D)

that's actually a sub-sub-pun... wondering if that makes it worse, or not :D

Japanese games, apart from a select few, were never really to my liking (some of the aesthetics and sensibilities never really spoke to me, I adore Dragon Age, but the Dragon Warrior/Quest game not so much) all down to taste.

Would be hella boring if everyone had the same, don'tcha think? :D

It's interesting to note that some of the more recent Dragon Quest translations are filled with puns. Dragon Quest 8, for example, has an enemy called a "See Urchin". Dragon Quest 5 has an enemy whose name was translated as "Urnexpected", which, incidentally, is first encountered at a place where the player is not expecting to fight. (Basically, since Dragon Quest 4, pots in towns generally have treasure; here the player finds a nice quiet town in the mountains, decides to check the pots, and one of them turns out to be an Urnexpected (first one in the series) and attacks!)

With that said, it isn't as nasty as the "joke" that Final Fantasy 5 plays on the player, putting a superboss in a treasure chest in the final dungeon.

(Final Fantasy 5 Advance's translation also has a lot of jokes, puns, and references in it.)
What did one user say to another user?
You gonna use that?
What's sweet, sticky and just irresistible?

A honeypot!

Person 1: Hey, what's an electrical engineer's favourite band? ACDC of course!

Person 2: Don't be silly; it's "LED" Zeppelin...

Why was Heisenberg such a bad lover?

When he got the momentum, he couldn't find the position, and when he found the position, he couldn't muster up the momentum.
