A neighbor's pit bull is loose and hanging out in our back yard. I know his name, so I've been trying to get him and Sarge to meet and become friends. Seems Joey *really* wants to meet Sarge, but doesn't have anywhere near the same energy level. I keep trying to get Sarge to settle down and bring it down a notch so he doesn't keep running Joey off, but there's no reaching him right now. Total spazz.

You're lucky. My guy doesn't always play well with others (he's never done anything but he doesn't really "loosen up" around many dogs). I've been trying to do a better job of having him around other dogs now that the weather is getting nice and everyone's out and about again.

I think this guy in our back yard (Joey) is the same way. He has a lot of trouble loosening up, but really does want to be friendly with Sarge. It's almost turned into a snapfest a couple times when Joey just couldn't tolerate Sarge coming at him and getting in his face trying to play. We've been told a couple times when we have to take him to day care / boarding that they keep Sarge with other dogs who don't really know how to restrain themselves when playing, as they can all have fun together without giving all the more laid back and the more easily stressed out dogs a headache.
We're not the most social of animals ourselves, so sadly Sarge doesn't do a whole lot of socializing with other dogs, aside from when he's in boarding or when we visit either my parents or my wife's, but both our parents have tiny dogs that can't handle his level of play. I think that's part of why he comes on a *wee* bit strong when there's a potential new friend around. :)
Hello! I think they'll be great friends, so long as Mr. Pupper can learn to play it cool a little bit. He's just about a year old, so he may start growing out of his over-excited puppy mode soon. One day. Eventually. I'm hoping. :)
