superstande: oh man Pillars sounds way too cool now.
As far as I know, Torment only has 3 classes for the main hero... and the guy always looks pretty much the same :)
It is good. It took me a while to get into and I was ready at the end, but the ride in the middle was a lot of fun.

Torment has some of the greatest NPCs ever. Mostly because a lot of them were "outside of the box" when it came to characters. Torment switched up the usual classes to give us these neat Planescape critters instead of the usual fare.

The two unique parts of Torment in regards to straight character stuff is how the main character can switch classes without a lot of effort, whereas normal characters are pretty much stuck with what they pick initially unless they decide to dual class, which is a massive pain in the ass to deal with.
Then of course there's the whole not staying dead despite being killed thing.

Ixamyakxim: In a way, a lot of the game is like that. It leaves your characters very "open ended" (though they do have roles) but as you level them up and "specc" them you sort of start to define how you use these little guys battle in and battle out. Okay I'll be quiet now - make sure to give updates as you go along! ;)
I played it a little previously, and I like how the skills work. Usually you have to do things like always bringing a thief along to deal with locks and traps. I appreciate that with Pillars anyone can learn whatever they want to, so you're not bound to cookie-cutter concepts and party formations.

;) that not dying bit is quite nice, sure!
And I'm not complaining - got Pillars myself... just starting to hope Torment isn't too far from over... My brain can't process two epic games at the same time :)

Yup before I made my rogue I had my priest doing double duty as the resident locksmith. It might cost a few extra points, but because you can specc people in a more open ended manner it's perfectly doable.
One thing I should mention, just in case other people get annoyed by not having all the little bits and pieces of a game, inconsequential though they might be.
In the expansion for Pillars, you also get the pre-order items that were kept away on release. So if that bothers a person, you can at least have that stuff.

You and me both on that one. -laughs- If I go into something heavy, I want to focus on that til it's done. No getting sidetracked with other stuff.

Damned points...

Guess I'll be keeping a rogue around ASAP after all. Maybe I'll just make my main character good at other things instead.

You really don't have to - my priest was perfectly fine and it's not like I wanted him to have those points other places (though they did eventually make one of the "dump" skills start to give you a "resting bonus" that got better as you leveled it - but it was far from needed).

The only reason I made the rogue is because the class in Pillars is a near carbon copy of the 4E rogue - and I wanted to make one of my PCs ;) They even had the hat in game, to really complete the illusion ;)
*jumps into conversation*

I've been playing Pillars with a newly-created cipher for most of the afternoon. It's pretty darn fun so far! And the game looks great.
Hello everybody

*Really deadly fucking bloody tired hugs and waves*

Insomnia, without the games...

I usually don't even use rogues to attack. (They always have a bad habit of getting killed when they get close.) They tend to exist as general handymen for dungeon-related problems.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it so much. I will be attempting to catch up soon. -laughs-

Good evening. =)

Bit of a kick in the crotch, isn't it...
Stupid awfully-timed insomnia. Can't really think of too many people offhand in more need of some kind of useful rest than you right now. I hope it goes away, at least for a bit.

Yeah well. Had some seconds every once in a while at work to check the front page and even spent some money (thanks gogs for that "save cc" feature). But of course all the fun is in watching the threads and joining the chatter, complaining for some game to finally go away... Couldn't have any of that :'-(

Even had the pleasure to see that JULIA debacle, although I really don't know how that played out... ;-)

Here at home the shit is really hitting the fan... But I have to survive at least tomorrow then there's hopefully the Friday and Saturday morning for some rest.

That sounds bad... :-| **big comforting and energizing hugs**

If it's any consolation, there aren't lulls in this setup. You didn't miss anything there.

Hmm. Actually missed that one, think I was in town running errands at the time.

Frigging wonderful. I hope that works out for you, so you can get some kind of rest soon.

Thanks a lot, you're all wonderful!

I wish I had any idea how to calm my wife. As you maybe know he's been hospitalized for "water in the lungs" and they removed more than a litre...

He's had CT and tests, and they now can say it's not the heart, and also not the kidneys. Now the suspicion is some tumour that they haven't found yet... not too promising O_o and they're opening him again tomorrow to have a closer look...

Of course my wife is really desperate and in tears often - who wouldn't be with such a wonderful dad. Wish I could be more of help, but actually I'm working right now... :-(

Ah I ducked out at just the wrong time! It seems there's a ton of love for the "hybrid" type classes that can jump easily from melee to magic at a moments notice.

Or did you go cipher with a gun / ranged? How are the spells - like I said, I used my cipher character far too little because I already had "my party" fleshed out. Of course, it's really easy to swap back and forth and I was at a perfect point in the story to do so ... but ... well que sera sera.
Finally, a quiet moment. What a busy day.
