Soccorro: Openra also offers the campaigns. Its actually a graphical update to hd resolutions
I might take a look at it then sometime. But I thought it only had a few of the missions, or does it take them from the CD?

ElTerprise: Don't know what the demo included but i actually played the Soviet and most of the Allied Campaign of RA3. It is pretty dumb. The idea of having a Co-op campaign was not bad but not really good executed imho...
Yes i totally agree. The gameplay of 2 was definitely superior to 1 but the story of RA1 was better (despite the horrible German accent ^^)... :)
I really like Red Alert 1 as it has more of a realistic feel, just like the first C&C game. And what do you mean? Those accents were perfect, just like the acting. What the hell would you know about German accents? :-)

Do you need Red Alert to play? I tend to burn out quickly on RTS games but I always sort of regret not having tried RA (or maybe it was RA2?).

Ixamyakxim: Some of the indies are PAINFUL for me to look at. I also tend to dislike pixel graphics - HOWEVER some do a nice job WITH pixel graphics. As a rule I'm not a fan, but I'm always impressed when I find / see an indie that uses them well and to good effect.

I don't remember too much of the story, but there IS one there that much I remember. Hunting other Fallen Angels, that I think were infiltrating and running the government? So your character, said angel falls in with a "Resistance" if I remember correctly.

The game also had a REALLY well done setting - when you hear "angel returned to Earth" you DON'T think dystopian mechanized future - but that's exactly what this game did. Without going over the top with it - felt very natural and really (I remember more of the "feel" of it than I do the niceties and details of the actual content - so probably so - so story with good atmosphere).
I completely agree. Some have used the style to make great games, but I feel that the majority are just lazy and use those graphics as a quick and cheap thing. Some games have pixel graphics but there are lots of details there, others just seem like they can't be bothered, especially when you see their terrible optimisation. A game that looks 20 years old should not require 1GB of VRAM, or a quad-core.

I will be sure to have a look when it comes out. I really enjoy the older FPS games. Thank you for the info on the game.

I played a few of them during that time - I was a big fan of Infinity Engine, Blizzard, SciFi flight sim and FPS games during that time. I wasn't ever *that* good at multiplayer FPS games (though I used to have a BLAST in Day of Defeat) so I tended to stay away from Quake and Unreal Tournament (though I wish I had gotten into the big vehicle based one).

So I played a lot of the random single player FPS games - random stuff like Requiem, Soldier of Fortune, Kingpin, of course Half Life. And yup, no problem! It was a game I liked, so I'm happy to "talk it up" to someone on the fence or interested about it ;)

Yes. That's the reason i prefer the first three games over all the others (except RA2's gameplay)...
The stories and settings were definitely more realistic than in all the other C&C games....

Hm....in that case i probably shouldn't even start talking about the geographical errors in RA1 :)

I am not much of a multiplayer gamer. In fact I don't think I have ever played a multiplayer game online. I enjoy local multiplayer or co-op, but I have just never gotten into regular multiplayer.

I have played Kingpin years ago, I seem to remember it being quite difficult, and I have played Soldier of Fortune. Both were good games, nothing spectacular, but good. A bit like a few FPS games on GOG. Chaser and Iron Storm are two I liked, along with the better known games like FEAR 1, Red Faction, Medal of Honour and other games I might have missed.

You just don't know when to quit. So now there were geographical errors? And what would you know about geography? :-) (Only joking, of course.)

*big silly hug*

But I know what you mean. I think in those days it was more about the general idea, rather than specific accurate things. It gave them more time to make fun games, before selling their soul to EA.

Goodnight, ELT! Sleep well.

ddickinson: I am picturing you having told all your house mates to not bother you for the duration. Then you grab your supplies, board up the windows and block your door. Then just sit there guzzling coffee and laughing manically as you enjoy the sale. :-)
-laughs- More or less. ;)

Course, the whole idea is to be done before the sale hits the third round. If you still have a huge list of stuff and you're sitting in the third round, you've probably screwed up.
It all comes down to round 1, or round 2.
With round 1, you can get the jump on everything, possibly get out fast and clean with what you want. (Or you can end up blowing out your budget, leaving you with nothing to buy something good when it pops up for the first time.)
With round 2, you can plan everything out, no big surprises. (Unless of course you end up falling asleep, stuff comes up you can't put off, causing you to miss something and leaving you in the uneviable position of having to chew through round 3.)

And then a game appears that slows the whole thing down for hours... or days. :-)
The fake reviews were always fun, and the tension as people wanted the game to hurry up and go. I thought maybe a timer would help, let a game appear until either they sell out, or the timer reaches zero.
Just another hello before I either get an early night's sleep or get sucked back into Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. I hope you all have a lovely evening (or whatever your time of day)!
