ddickinson: When I was there last, there were some American (or Canadian) tourists who were complaining at the size of it. They seemed to think that the Globe theatre was the size of a modern arena. They did not consider that there were fewer people 500 years ago, and that very few people would be able to see the shows. The plays are nicely done, quite authentic for the most part.

If you get to see some other shows while you are there, and if you are into ballet, then I can recommend the Royal Opera House. The shows they put on are wonderful.
To be honest, that's kind of amusing. I especially find it fun to consider that theater back then was not at all like theater nowadays. Half the time, people wouldn't even be watching the play - they'd be buying food, shouting or consorting with whores. Of course, when one considers that the choice of entertainment was between bear baiting and the theater, it seems somewhat less odd.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll probably not be able to see much outside of what is planned, as we already have a rather large number of plays scheduled, and I'll only be in London itself for one day. The rest of the week I'll be spending in Stratford upon Avon. I wish I had time to see more! I've been to England before, but there's always so much to see and so little time.

London has way too much to see and do in a day, even a week would not be enough time. I could spend weeks on end around the many varied museums alone. So you are going to see his old house as well. I have been to Stratford Upon Avon to see the Shakespeare related areas when I was at school. It was quite nice, we got to see a play there (a small outdoor play), so it was a good school trip.

Not that I want to start a political debate, and not that I am overly keen on the current party, but I feel that the ones we have in at the moment are our best bet, at least compared to Labour and the Lib Dems. People seem to forget that it was Labour that got us in this mess to begin with.

That's definitely true. I spent three days in London a few years ago and I managed to see the biggest highlights, but there's still so much left to see. If I ever win the lottery or something like that I'll be sure to spend a few weeks there. :)

Yep, we'll definitely be seeing that. This trip is really awesome, because we'll be receiving courses on the plays we're seeing at the Shakespeare Center as well. And we'll probably also get the chance to talk to some of the actors after the plays.

That does indeed sound like a good school trip! My school preferred letting us act ourselves instead of taking us out to see plays. :P

Acting the plays can also be fun. We did not do much of that, but when we did it was a lot of fun getting dressed up.
