CarrionCrow: Quickie first thought?

It feels like a highly atmospheric, very well written browser game.

It has some real-time stuff added, but the interface, the docking, the stories, the stats, the items?

It all feels like a browser game I paid 17 dollars for so I wouldn't have to wait on some bullshit timer to get my next move.

I'm going to play it more. Hell, I'm sure I'll play it a lot more. They have an option that your motivation in life is to explore everything to win the game. I'm all over that.

But for right now? It's still essentially a browser game with real-time combat on top.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that Sunless Sea will be a big success, and that from there the developers will work on transitioning it from Sunless Sea, a game that feels extremely similar to a browser game, into a full-bore RPG based on their world.

adaliabooks: That's a shame, but not all that surprising considering that is exactly their background. And if what your paying for is basically not having a replenishing energy meter that's a bit much for the price they are charging...

I'll still probably pick it up eventually, but not till it's got a good discount. As the free to play nature of Fallen London was what put me off it mainly, so a similar experience without the energy meter would be enjoyable.

Edit: Oh, and hello everyone :)
Hey there. =)

Yeah, maybe I'm just old and set in my ways, but I'll go for RPG quests, RPG key items, and a map I can actually write notes on. (Especially that last one, since it looks like Sunless Sea is just as nuts for items as Fallen London. I'll probably be keeping manual notes to keep track of it all, given that fuel and supplies are both crucial and hard to find.)

Also, pirates are complete dicks. Just saying. My first captain of the game went glub-glub-goodbye thanks to those assholes.

I know what you mean. That's why I'm loving Lords of Xulima, quests, combat, puzzles, levelling, maps. It's got everything you could want, although I have to say I haven't used the map notes yet, but I do love it as a feature in games (ironically the games that feature map notes are the ones I never seem to use them, whereas when a game doesn't I always want to be able to)

I agree about pirates though. I got enough grief from their space cousins in FTL.

Edit: And this is what I've been working on for the last few days. I've re jigged the basics of my world generator, instead of basing it on just random noise I've generate continents based on spherical noise. It's not quite tweaked yet but I'm already pleased with the results, it's less broad strips of land and more continent like. Plus it's more flexible and can generate more specific types of maps (or will do once I finish it).

I am ignoring all negative comments about Sunless Sea and hereby declaring myself a raving FanBoi. :-)

On the bright side of things, I at least want these developers to succeed rather than die in a fire like some I've dealt with recently. =)

Thank you :)
I'm pretty pleased with them. Once I've sorted it out more they should be even better. I still need to work on the biomes (which at the moment just choose the colours) as the moisture balance is rubbish and there are no deserts or dry spots. But I'm getting there.

I still need to get back to that one. Think I'm going to scrap my party and start over, since I keep wanting my paladin to die and I'm getting the feeling that LOX does not reward multi-classing, which the paladin is.
She can't hit for shit, she can't heal for shit, she's garbage for both.

What level are you at? My arcane soldier started a bit like that but became pretty good. I'm about level 12 or 13 now.

I'm not even sure at this point honestly, it's been a bit since I played.
Usually when I do that, I just start from scratch so I can at least try to have some kind of cohesive experience.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've half started a few games and the longer I leave them the less I remember what is going on and what stage I'm at.
Good day everyone!

How has your day been? Did I miss anything fun?
Good day, everyone. How's things?

edit - Dammit! Ninja'd by dd :-P

My day has been going well. Just relaxing and enjoying the good feelings that magically came my way.

How are you doing, dd? I don't think you missed much. The thread has been pretty slow today.

Hey both.

I don't think so... I've just been lurking about for most of the day though so I might have missed something.

Hi!

Your maps are beginning to look great. I hope you had a good weekend?

Do you have anything romantic planned next week for Valentines Day?

My favorite show :-) (Such an old clip... I can't believe the show started 4 years ago. It still seems so new to me.)

How are you doing?
