I think I'm the only one who was scared while playing FEAR. I am terrified of little girls :-)

Eh. I think I'll pass. Again, I don't want any MORE stuff on my laptop. I'm bogging the poor thing down as it is.

zeogold: Sorry to interrupt, but this has been bugging me for some time:
Can I have an enlarged version of your profile picture? I can tell it's an owl, but it's so tiny, I can't tell much else.

Empress_Owl: Of course... there. It's a drunk partying owl :)
Ah, thank you.
What's the phrase mean? I don't speak "Other".

I will have to be making a move now to see the specialist. Sorry for not replying to any of the posts, I promise I will make time later to respond to anyone, so sorry for just going mid-conversation.

I hope you will all have a really lovely day. Take care.

*hugs and waves*

Bonne Année = Happy new Year

In French. Aka Other.

Little girls can be scary... and I have two of them... *help!*

I just find most "supernatural" stuff and blood and gore a lot less frightening than, how to put it..., abnormities and perversions of real-world and human themes and topics.

For instance System Shock 2: The monkeys aren't that scary because they have some psionic blast that really hurts, but because they really sound like upset monkeys - and you can hear them from far away. Same for the cyborg midwives - without their constant muttering about babies they would just be simple monsters. And many of the most scary scenes are the "ghost flashbacks" that show what happened to the people aboard the ship.

I see what you mean.
For me, I guess I am just super-jumpy. The youngest sibling is always jumpy because he is always on the lookout for the bigger, meaner siblings ;-p Just the thought that something might jump out at me at any moment is scary in itself.
I think I can make just about any game scary by being in the right mood. Sometimes I'll "decide" whether or not a game will be scary when I play it. It all depends on my attitude going in. Plus, playing in the dark, with headphones on and no distractions makes a huge difference. The atmosphere of the game and the atmosphere of the room combined can freak me the hell out pretty effectively.

Immersion is certainly a great factor for the enjoyment of many games (not just horror). That's why I really can't understand people who have TV or some "other" music running in the background or play windowed to have a look at some social network at the same time. Ok, works with Solitaire or Minesweeper I guess, but I know a lot of folk who "multi-task" this way even when playing really atmospheric and immersive games like STALKER or Witcher. I don't get it.

But well, I don't go often to the cinema (since I don't like localized versions of movies AND I don't like 99.99% of German movies), the last was Inside Out with the kids - and I was aghast to see that not even there people could refrain from petting their phones... *sigh*.

I'll do the multitasking stuff, depending on the game :"p ... I couldn't do it with a first-person shooter though. An FPS requires my full screen and full attention; something like Terraria does not. Plus, I have to keep a chat window open to play Technobabylon with Owl, since adventure games typically don't have multiplayer functionality :-p

Ugh... People pulling phones out at a cinema is one of the top 3 reasons I don't like going to see movies these days >__< There are rules against it, but it seems that nobody cares anymore. Too many people do it.
