toxicTom: Little girls can be scary... and I have two of them... *help!*
I just find most "supernatural" stuff and blood and gore a lot less frightening than, how to put it..., abnormities and perversions of real-world and human themes and topics.
For instance System Shock 2: The monkeys aren't that scary because they have some psionic blast that really hurts, but because they really sound like upset monkeys - and you can hear them from far away. Same for the cyborg midwives - without their constant muttering about babies they would just be simple monsters. And many of the most scary scenes are the "ghost flashbacks" that show what happened to the
people aboard the ship.

I see what you mean.
For me, I guess I am just super-jumpy. The youngest sibling is always jumpy because he is always on the lookout for the bigger, meaner siblings ;-p Just the thought that something might jump out at me at any moment is scary in itself.
I think I can make just about any game scary by being in the right mood. Sometimes I'll "decide" whether or not a game will be scary when I play it. It all depends on my attitude going in. Plus, playing in the dark, with headphones on and no distractions makes a huge difference. The atmosphere of the game
and the atmosphere of the room combined can freak me the hell out pretty effectively.
