FearfulSymmetry: Reading can be a very nice escape. Good books can really take you away from your daily life to another place, and it's nice that you can enjoy them that much. I used to read a lot as well, but since I'm studying English I've not been reading as much for my own pleasure. I do read a lot of books for my studies, but those aren't necessarily ones I'd have picked myself (and sometimes I don't enjoy them at all). The result of this is that I spend most of my free time doing other things than reading, although I try to catch up in the holidays. (And I love movies! Movies are great. :P)
I have nothing against moves or tv, some of them are great, it's just that for a while now I have preferred the written word more.l0rdtr3k

Hi! *hug*
I have played all of the factions in the DOW games I own. I am not keen on the Eldar or the Tau, but the Necron and Chaos factions were nice. And I liked the Orks because they are quite fun, especially the saying they make when you click on them, like the ones that say "sod off" when you select the unit. That always makes me smile. :-)

And should I search for the Horus Heresy series and the Grey Knights books?
ddickinson: To be honest, I have not read any of the Codexs for some time now, ever since they started destroying the lore, the universe, and the balance of the game. They are getting quite expensive and I'm not willing to pay all that money to support them when they are just destroying everything. I have some of the books that feature orks, but none that I can remember of the top of my mind that have orks as main characters. Most of the books they publish now are just Space Marine rubbish, or those bloody small stories they keep pushing out, with little to no originality or interest in them - they are just like glorified battle reports.

The Horus Heresy books are a very mixed bag, due to the many different authors. Some are quite good, others are just terrible. It started out as a nice idea for a series, with so much to explore, but as usual, they are just milking it now and destroying the story. Some of the novels in the series don't even have anything to do with the Heresy, so I have stopped reading them, as for me, it's just the same stuff again and again. The quality has really dropped for the books recently. Some of the books feel like the authors just couldn't be bothered, like the DOW novels. Sadly the Heresy series seems to be all they concentrate on these days.
The Grey Knights book again suffer from a story that is all action, with little character development. The first book is okay, but the second two really drop in quality. I guess if you like the Chapter or you can find them for very cheap then they would be okay.

Which series do you recommend?
Also, have you heard of The Vaults of Terra? It's a 40K lore channel. Quite interesting and one of my sources of 40K lore.
