CarrionCrow: It's a copy/paste game, all right. And they were too sloppy and stupid to conceal it.

They took what they could from Dark Crusade, halfassed through the rest, and failed to even halfass what they'd already cut whole cloth.
The description for the Chaos leader actually having the name of the Chaos leader from Dark Crusade on it was a bit of a dead giveaway.

As for why they did it? Money and attention.
They undoubtedly wanted someone out to keep people's attention on DOW, but away from asking about DOW 2, and they went about it with a mix of greed and laziness, charging full price for a game that's mostly Dark Crusade, only mixed with toxic sludge.
That does seem sloppy, especially leaving the Chaos leaders name still in the description. As you said, a very lazy copy and paste job. I wonder if Soulstorm included the changes made in the last patch for Dark Crusade. I can't remember too much about it, but the patch destroyed most of the balance to the game. It made the factions like the Tau, the Imperial Guard, the Orks, Eldar, and Chaos a lot weaker (some were already a bit weak), while making the already over powered Space Marines and Necrons stronger. I never used the patch, but I did mod the game a little to let you attatch Chaplain to squads, increase vehicle and infantry limit, and minor little improvements. It seemed to stupid to completely destroy the balance of the game. It was probably a trick to get people to buy Soulstorm, thinking it would be an improvement over the last patch.
Note to self:NEVER piss off a Nurgle Spawn.
I'm still loyal to the Emperor while my brother got corrupted you Inquisition fellas should talk to him.
Brother,if that's you again you know I'm also a Red Mage, you won't like having several icicles shoved up your arse.
BRB,warding my brother's wardrobe.

l0rdtr3k: ...but I'm still waiting something akin to Final Liberation because I like Epic 40K and because of Commissar Holt, the dude is Ciaphas Cain level of badass.
I love Final Liberation. I have it on CD and even got it to work on Windows 7. It's a shame the game is not on GOG, as it's a great turn based strategy game, with some nice level designs. There was only three things I did not like about Final Liberation:

1. The Space Marines were too weak. Even the weakest enemy unit could easily destroy a Space Marine squad. The Space Marines also routed way too easily. The game had some balance issues, not just with the Space Marines but with some others as well. Gretchins destroying a Baneblade in melee, for example.

2. I did not like the moral timer. I am not a fan of times games, and so I never liked the moral timer in the game. It would have been a good system for effecting the efficiency of your troops, but not as a timer.

3. It was not finished. It has parts in place for at least 4 other races, but these were never implemented. Worst of all they left place holders there for these races, even though they knew the final game would not include them.
Wardrobe warded,sentry gun placed.I'm done.
But for a 90s 40K game,it's very well made. Even the FMVs are a highlight.
But yeah,Gretchins destroing a Baneblade is very out there. Even on the tabletop you can't do that.
Goddamn it,Genestealers now. BRB,fending off Tyranids.
I am of the order of Thay! Begone foul beasts or I shall smite you with my power and my trusty bolter pistol. Eat lead and magic! Get some!

I barely remember Final Liberation but it was a fun game, it would be great to have it here. I wish they would bring Shadow of the Horned Rat here. That game was awesome. It really felt like Warhammer too.

I always cheated though and modded all the units to be invincible and have max stats XD
But that was probably one of the things that got me into programming.
It's really a shame how much GW have declined... they've got two of the greatest fantasy / sci fi universes you could wish for and they just grind them into the dirt. I got out of Warhammer when my brother went to uni and I had no one to play against but it was getting more and more expensive as a hobby too so I doubt I would have continued with it for much longer even if that hadn't been the case.
I used to be on the forums for the original Warhammer MMO, the one that got cancelled, it was going to be a brilliant game but it turned out the company who were supposed to be making it had pissed all their money away and barely done anything so it got cancelled :(

I agree, despite it's shortfalls, it was a very well made game. I loved the FMVs, but then I like games with pre-rendered cut-scenes and FMVs. The Commisar was a good character for the videos, but it could have done with a bit more story, to tie the videos together.

adaliabooks: ...
That's greed for you. GW are slowly destroying the model/table top game, and pissing off so many die hard fans, and also letting every cowboy developer use their licence for computer games. The world/lore/back stories/settings for their two universes are wonderful, that's what I like about them, the amount of story and detail that goes into it all. But I think the company is on a slippery slope, which has been getting worse with each passing year.

Just make sure that when your game is a success, that you don't become just another lazy and greedy developer. :-)

Exactly. Every now and again I check on what new things are released with new army books and new rules editions and it's just getting more and more convoluted and ridiculous... apparently all elves in Warhammer always strike first now...
But the fact that they can't even manage to release all the armies before they do a new edition is crazy, and by the time the last army book is released they are so over powered compared to the first army released that they need to redo them all again (and everyone has to buy another book, and all the new models etc.)
Honestly, I loved Warhammer but GW are destroying it with their greed and I don't really see it changing :(

Never. I hate DLC and exclusive content, I hate micro transactions. The whole idea is to make a game I want to play. And that means one flat price that gets you a full game :)

I enjoy reading the books, I know they are not masterpieces, but I like the universe (especially 40K) and they are a nice easy read. But lately, all the novels are just getting so poor, with the same old story. I prefer the Imperial Guard novels, as they have a lot more human aspects to them, rather than the unstoppable Space Marines. I do read some Space Marine novels (the Soul Drinkers saga is quite different for a Space Marine series), but I try to pick those with a bit of story to them, not just a glorified battle report. GW really are just running it into the ground. The strange thing is, the fans keep telling them this, but they just don't listen, like most big companies.
Really, all elves strike first now? Where's the balance in that?
Even the worst wargames have that(or scraps of).

They could make a saga that deconstructs the 40K universe. That'll be interesting.

That's the spirit. I can't stand this culture of DLC and micro transactions. Those darn spoilt kids are ruining the gaming industry, they have more money than sense :-). I want the old days back where I bought a game I actually owned, and a game that was complete. Not a poorly designed, often incomplete game cut up to get more money. Flat priced you say? So we might get one new release on GOG that doesn't use regional pricing. :-)
What about expansion pack?
