Speaking of management games. Has ayone tried the X games from the bundle? Consensus is that they're kinda HUEG.

I was looking at the dailies... Revolver looks like a pretty good looking fast paced shmup. At a rather nice price too.
My skulking OCD is scratching its nails accross my brain in an effort to get me to grab AoW2 for completion's sake.

ddickinson: We have dark clouds here, but then we have been having quite a bad storm these last few days form a hurricane. The day is nice though, a cold wind and at least it is not raining yet, so maybe a nice walk would be fun. No big plans for the day. I am home alone for a while my partner gets some things done, then we will just relax at home.
sounds perfect :)

moonshineshadow: Hmm... if you want to try out a city builder I would advise you to get Anno 1602, since eases you into things slowly and it is a lot of fun :D
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm (more "m"s than you ;-p). I will take a look one time and see what I think. As I said, it is not really a genre I have tried, a bit like Terraria. I keep thinking of adding that game to my wishlist, but something is putting me off, possibly the fact I am not sure I will like it or not.

j0ekerr: It isn't bad, but it's a micro management game that can be at times quite frustrating since you have to be on top of every little detail. And there are, oh so many.
I will have to take a closer look at it over the weekend. Thank you.

CarrionCrow: Notice on the news post mentioned some of the bundles getting pulled and the last day having an emphasis on the 12 hour deals.
So I guess I had better check the bundles one last time. Not that it matters, I have gone over a year without buying a game for myself and I can never really make myself pick up any games that interests me as I just end up using that money on gifting someone else as my brain tells me I probably won't get around to playing a new game at the moment anyway. But I will have a look and see if there is anything.

well, emphasis on the word tried, yes, I have. Watched the intro, tried the controls, moved about, read the manual a bit. Seems like a really good game, want to play more today. And if the signs hold true, yeah it's a really epic game series. The X Gold base game might not hold on forever but you get the add-on to continue this madness, which should keep the interest up for a quite a while longer. But not far into it myself yet...

Hurm... Interesting.
The thing is I'd be getting the other 3 games. And the interesting thing is that despite the 3rd game being 10 years old already it still looks beautiful. Although that could be the magic of the screenshots.

Hopefully you'll see something that you'd like to buy for yourself. A year's a long time without a single thing for your own enjoyment.
Oh, and for anyone (or more likely no-one) who was interested in the follow up to my Never Alone review, me and my partner finished the game and the DLC and I will include the rest of my review below. Overall I did like the game, but it could have been longer, and maybe add documents to read about the Iñupiat culture as well as the brief video clips. I am keen to learn some more though, and I did manage to track down the book seen in a few of the videos with more of their cultural stories and myths.

All-in-all it took about 2-3 hours, with another hour or so for the DLC. As I mentioned before we played a little of the game a few days ago in single player, but we decided to go for co-op as sometimes the AI of the computer controlled character can get you killed quiet easily. However, it was not too big of a problem based on the short part we played single player, we just wanted to play together in co-op more than playing due to the AI. That being said, there are a few parts where I can see it being a little more difficult if you are playing single player rather than co-op, especially on the boss type areas and a few of the more tedious areas of the game (like a part near the very end).

*Might contain a few minor spoilers.*

The game does improve as it goes on, the story becomes more interesting and the areas more varied. Although there was a point in the story where something changes with the two characters that I was not that keen on when compared to how it was before, but it was done for a purpose (to tell more of the culture of the Iñupiat) and allowed a few new mechanics to be introduced. The game mixes the real world with mythology, as in spirits and things from the Iñupiat culture that will interact withy you, help you, and sometimes try to harm you. The mechanics are still not perfect, and could definitely be improved upon, but all in all I really enjoyed it. It was nice seeing the influences of that culture's mythology (if that is the right word), as well as the videos telling you about their culture (a girl on the video tells how she rode a polar bear when she was younger! How cool is that? :-)).

Overall, I really enjoyed the game, and I am glad I played it, although a change towards the end third of the game was not something I was big on, as I preferred it how it was before that change (I want to say what it is and why I preferred it before the change, but I won't spoil it), but that is just my tastes. And there are parts that are just infuriating where you will die several times due to the sometimes poor responsiveness of the controls, especially towards the end of the game. But it was fun playing it with my partner, and a nice way to spend a few hours. It is not for everyone, if you are not interested in the subject matter of the game, if the several faults in the game would put you off, if 2-3 hours for a game is too short for you (I think we were at about 2.5 hours), and you are looking for a more challenging and more polished platformer, then this game is not for you. But if you can look past the game's faults, and you do like the subject matter, and you are in the mood for a casual platformer with a few interesting aspects to it, then maybe look into the game more and see if you like it. I do not think it is worth the full price if I am honest, not as a game, and not when compared to other platform games out there, but on sale it is a good buy for those who would appreciate the game for what it is and fancy an okay puzzle platformer with a nice story, and some interesting cultural references. The DLC was about an hour or so, but it did feel very short, much shorter than the base game, but then it is just a DLC.

I would score the game maybe a 3 to a 3.5 out of 5 for the game. It is a short and average quality game, but it tried something different and does have some good qualities (I found the aesthetics to be quite nice) so that earned it a little higher score.

I hope that has been helpful, I don't think I am that good at writing reviews for games, which is why I usually don't bother. This time I am doing it as a thank you to Soccorro. So if my review is not helpful at all then blame him. :-)
Oh, what the hell! I just went ahead and got myself The X Classic bundle.

I have no idea when I'll ever get time to play such a huge game though. Games in plural.

Well I have been blessed with some generous gifts, so I have gotten some games from the kind people of the thread. This year has not been the best for me with time and gaming. Christmas is when my partners were both hospitalised (for different reasons) and I nearly lost them, then there was my brother losing his baby daughter, my extremely long work hours where I was working a month two of 18+ hour days, and for the last few months I have been very ill, all of that leaves me little time for games, especially when my game time is often when I am not with my partner or she is asleep (as I value my time with her more than gaming). Unless we are playing a game together, which is always fun, but not something I can do with the majority of the games I have on here (although we have played quite a few together, which accounts for most of the games I have played this year).

Kind of reflects my own feelings on Brothers. Beautiful, artsy, whimsical, poignant at points, and overall fun to play. A good game certainly, but not the mind blowing experience I was led to expect by some rather rave reviews.

I knew I suck at reviews, I could have just used what you wrote in stead of my wall of text. :-)

Never Alone is good, but I think most average gamers will not like it due to what it is trying to do. The game is not bad as such, just average, and there are many that are better. But I like the art style, and the whole concept. The game play has you loosely re-living one of the stories of the Iñupiat people. It also has a female leading lady, which is always nice. And she doesn't even have giant boobs and skimpy clothes. Double win. :-)

For those who don't mind such games, I would definitely recommend it on sale. Despite its faults, I left the game glad I have played it, and at only 3-4 hours including the DLC it is a nice way to spend an evening.

*grabs DD and coils around her in a snake like hug*
Hello and good morning.
I'd love nothing better than to download and install my latest purchases. But I need to finish reading a manual on LaTeX and get on with a chemistry assignment.

So I'm quitting the forum for the rest of the day to concentrate on those.
Oh and despite what past experiences with shameless old me may lead you to believe, it's not that kind of latex.
I wish it were.

Hello and good morning.
So you are a snake now and not a little blob? :-)
*big hug*

How are you today? Random question: is your family descended from the native people of the Americas, or did your distant ancestors settle from Europe?
