Darn, wanted to make Spaghetti Bolognese tonight and forgot to buy any kind of grating cheese.

EndreWhiteMane: 5:45 am, nothing to do.
Forum's empty, snowing outside, guess I'll clean up in here.
<gets broom, sweeps up popcorn and cookie crumbs>
<gets Lysol, kills smell of cigarette smoke>
<gets paintbrush, covers all remaining pink with blue>
Much better! :-)

I hate when I do that, buy all of the ingredients but one. Fortunately I have a store close. ;)
My memory's so short I could throw myself a surprise party! :-)

Yeah, there are lots of stores close, but in Germany it's Sunday - means everything is closed except for the late night stores and the gas stations. I could get a hundred different kinds of beer or microwave food, but grating cheese will be hard to come by.

The grocery stores here were closed on Sunday when I was a kid, most have been open 24/7 except holidays for a long time, which is very nice.

All the big shops close here on a Sunday (well, they are allowed to open for six hours or something) but small shops can open whenever they like.
It's an absolute pain, you forget it's Sunday and try to go out and do anything and all the shops are closed...
I got the cheese! My favourite small late night shop (run by a beautiful russian Jehova's Witness and her husband) had some. Picked up some beer too - so tonight's dinner is saved.

Good news! Save me some. ;)

I've been playing a bit more Lords of Xulima (still have no idea what difficulty level I choose as it doesn't seem to tell you anywhere... I think I may have gone for middle as that was the 'recommended' one, but I might have chosen easy due to you guys saying it was quite hard...)

Remember when I said my Arcane Soldier was a bit rubbish? Turns out I was wrong :)
He's turning into a pretty versatile Mage / Warrior combo (as hoped), not that he has some more PP his flaming strike is very useful for whittling down tough enemies health.
I really like it, but it's an odd game... My main gripe is movement, it's just very clunky (and slow)... especially when the floor is covered in traps you are trying to avoid. The lack of random enemies is a bit tough too as there are loads of enemies way above your current level and you kind of have to find the right area you are supposed to be in where you can actually fight the enemies and survive, level up and come back to kick the tough guys asses later.

But my party is actually pretty good. Gaulen is the only one I don't like, but his wilderness skills (lockpicking and trap disarming, plus spotting traps) more than make up for his uselessness in battle. The Arcane Soldier, Barbarian and Soldier combo makes a great front line, and the Bard is great for support. Cleric is largely useless until people get hurt, but that's what he's there for.

I have to say I'm enjoying it much more than the D & D style RPGs I've got. I really want to like NWN, but I can't quite seem to get into it.
Are there more games similar to LoX that I should try instead?

Sorry, been out shoveling snow, and shoveling, and shoveling. :-)
Try the Spiderweb Software games, especially the new Avernum. I like the 'feel' of them a lot.
Their website has large demos you can try.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that. I love RPGs but mostly grew up on JRPGs and seem to have largely bypassed the Western style ones..

I feel your pain, we didn't get enough snow that shovelling it was required, but what we got is still hanging around... and it's supposed to snow more next week..
