EndreWhiteMane: I was just looking for something that would give me an idea how tabletop games work. Thought it might help understand the mechanics of PC games better.
Maybe D&D would be best?
Thinking that would depend on what kinds of PC games you're wanting insight into.

If you're thinking Baldur's Gate/Neverwinter/Icewind/Planescape, then yes, D&D would be the one to go for.
For other games, other rulesets would apply, so D&D probably wouldn't match up.

EndreWhiteMane: That poor guy. He looks very sad and confused. ;)
Nice job, not your usual look for a Jack O' Lantern.

ElTerprise: *fain...* just kidding. That's evil .... and awesome :D

Empress_Owl: Hoooooo it's too cute !!!!
It doesn't looked that panicking...
**Hug for the puzzled-looking pumpkin**
Here is mine :)
Already 5 groups of 2 to 6 or 7 kids have come... I hope they're done, otherwise I won't have any candy left for me... >:-|
n__n ... Thanks everyone.

Owl - Yours is awesome! :-D Very well done!
**Panicking Pumpkin somehow returns your hug and thanks you** :-p
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll get some candy leftover :-)

Just... dammit. I'm so sorry for you and your other half. That is awful. In a way, I even feel a bit sorry for her dad, being such a miserable shit that he can't even enjoy the announcement of his grandchild.

I always say "as long as it's not hurting anyone, I have no problem with religion." And I really mean that, but the truth is, I don't know of any situations where it has not been hurting someone, in some way :-\

Thanks for sharing.
It's always been my opinion that religion is driven by peoples fear that dying is just 'game over'.
It's a much happier thought that the trudge through life ends in something better, or at least something.
As I get older I often wish that I did believe in an afterlife. The whole 'lights out and it's done' thing is pretty scary.

What would you suggest as a basic insight into D&D?

All of the D&D games I mentioned aside from Neverwinter are based around this. If you're looking for a place to start, that'd be the one.

To me, the thought of an afterlife has always made me panic. The thought of living forever is a brutally uncomfortable one for me. Why do you think my favourite game is No One Lives Forever? ;-)
But yeah, I imagine my opinion on it will probably change, the older I get...

[edit : let's snip this. getting a bit too personal :-p]

Not a problem. Also, I don't mind plugging that one a bit since it's the first pen and paper game I ever got.
Amusingly enough, only managed to get that because my mother was convinced by a convicted murderer that the game wasn't satanic.

Additional - Now watching Bob Ross on Twitch. Someone mentioned that they're airing 403 episodes of it nonstop, turned it on, and it's borderline mesmerizing.

Ah...think i solved the mystery...with the achievements...well apparently i had Galaxy running in the background after updating some games ... and even though i didn't start the game via Galaxy, it still gave me achievements for stuff....

I think i need better glasses then :P

I'm assuming she didn't know he was a murderer at the time?

... I'm so sorry about it... really sad. The dark and sad side of religions....
On another hand, it also reminds me my own story, even if the circumstances are a bit different ... my partner's mother also really badly reacted when we announced her I was pregnant (of her first grandchild !). Like "no... impossible. Not now. Not me."... She reacted so selfishly... saying stuff, like she was not ready to be a grand mother, that it was not "logical" because my partner wasn't her oldest son... that it wasn't the right moment, because (...) well. She was so... angry ! My partner cried as well, he was shocked, and disappointed... I took my eldest owlet with me (only 3 years old ; he should have wondered what happened... and was about to leave their house, when she grabbed my sleeve to hold me back "ho no, you won't leave !"... ô__ô .... And then I just...yelled at her... i hadn't been that angry for a decade. I thought I could have hit her if she hadn't let me go.... Awesome family memories... !! Now she is totally fine with it and loves her grand daughter, but something is spoiled forever in her relationship with my partner and her... and since then, between my partner and me (he lost his self confidence, and was really depressed for 1,5 year at least. Things will never be the same now...
The importance of "first reactions"... she tried so hard to make up for it afterward... but it was too late.... :-\
I totally sympathize.... I wish things got better for your wife after that, but I doubt... ?

Hey, that's a good enough endorsement for me. :-)

Oh no, she totally did. -laughs-

Also funny? The person was in prison for killing a guy in a wheelchair in a bar fight.
He threw away something like 30 years of his life for the satisfaction of beating a wheelchair-bound person to death.
I start to wonder how that went down...
Did he try to leave? Did the wheelchair-bound man furiously wheel himself down the street after him, hurling insults until he couldn't take it anymore?

Just a few questions I'll never get the answers to...

Holy plucking shirt. That is one of the top 5 most interesting stories I've heard today. (There have been a lot today...)
Yeah, I imagine I'd have quite a few questions too *feels bad about laughing* n__<

My apologies for having to interrupt my dose of weird storytime, but I'm being summoned away to run errands. Back in a bit.
