Happy Halloween, folks! So I started having BSOD issues and all kinds of hardware hijinks are happening, and the lady told me to go ahead and pull the trigger on a new system. But now I'm at a loss... I'll have a new system coming soon, but I need to figure out what on earth to back up from this one! It's been a while since I've done this.

I know to look for game saves, maybe that's all I really need to worry about. I could back up my other system folders, but I'll be working with a fresh copy of Win 7 I believe, so I'm not really sure I need to worry about anything but my files/data. I suppose I may figure that out the hard way, months down the road when I realize I'm missing something important. ;)

I hope you're all enjoying your day! I'm off to take the pup out back for a bit, but I'll be back around to catch up in a bit. :)
Here are my "autumn pics" that I promised a week ago :-p Not too many colourful falling leaves here. Mostly just weeds. There are a couple decent views here and there though.

Stilton: I remember seeing something on TV with Richard Dawkins about how big religion is in the US, and there was an amazingly high statistic about the percentage of the population that believed in angels. Viewed through the eyes of someone with no religious belief at all, it seemed staggering and distinctly strange. So its not surprising that Halloween is seen as a threat in some circles.
I think this might help your understanding of the subject. ;)

I really want to get that game sometime, huge fan of the original wasteland.

Very funny stuff. Carlin is a really clever comedian. I was laughing all the way through that piece :-)

And good day, how's your Halloween?

AgentBirdnest: I didn't really have a choice. My parents, and theirs, and theirs were all Mormons. I stopped believing in anything remotely religious at all about 6-7 years ago, and I'm much happier this way.
I'm fine with anyone believing whatever they want, if they are accepting of others... but I find that is not often the case here.
Sorry you had to deal with that, and have to keep dealing with it.

I had a relative who tried that. It didn't work on me. They thought church school was the answer. I had four relatives go that route, and how did they end up? Drug addiction, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, criminal records, near death experiences from alcohol overdose. -laughs-

As for the wedding thing, you're not missing much. When you're a spectator, it's boring. When you're directly involved in it, you just wish all the buildup and stress and ritual would be over with already. Either way, you can have more fun doing something else.

Likewise! :)
Hmm... might do well to roam around the old hard disk for a bit checking out what's in there :)
I have mine crammed with all kinds of sh... stuff... that I need... some day... :)
Comics and books... a whole bunch of text files, pictures, movies, and then the game related fixes, mods and extras...

Carlin, Hicks and Stanhope. Those are the three.

Good afternoon. =)

Just woke up after a couple days of nothing other than weird dozing at my desk, so I'm feeling a bit better.
Figuring I'll start up a game of Stasis in between getting killed playing Galak-Z. That should cover Halloween-related stuff nicely. Other than that, it's a quiet day after all the running around yesterday.

How are you doing?

I've made a habit of backing up everything I want to keep onto two external HDs, each with exactly the same stuff on it (backup of backup). I went the painful route a few years ago and lost months of work and valuable files when a PC decided to go silly. It hurt lots. So now I back up everything and if the PC does the same or similar I've got it covered. Nothing I want to keep is ever left uncopied on my PC.

If you've got personal stuff to grab, that's all you'll need. Your new system will come with a new OS that's clean and working. No need to worry about hanging onto bits from the old one. If your new system needs to be tinkered with like that straight out of the box, I'd suggest sending it back and getting one that's in good shape to begin with.

Cool!
the little I've played the original, I can see lots of stuff carries over to the sequel...
I've been too much of a coward to get into the first one properly as of yet, though.

Well, what do you know...

A small costumed child just came to my door asking for chocolate and goodies. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice ale, sthfsthfsthfsthfsthfsth

You've got to get into the swing of things, haven't you...

If you don't mind the age of the game, wasteland is one of the best post-apoc RPG's ever. IMO of course.
