Stilton: Yes, we do! \o/ Guy Fawkes Night might well be my highlight of the year - sorry, Halloween, I love you, but Guy Fawkes Night is terrific :-)
I like the fact that it's political. Originally it was to be a burning in effigy of an enemy of the state. But lately it's more of a celebration of a freedom fighter. And I think this was so even before Alan Moore.
Stilton: Such blinkered bullshit makes me dislike religion deeply. All of that interference in peoples' lives, and its attitude that it can butt in on any subject and put forth an opinion that deserves respect and should be listened to. Sickening.
Religion is kind of a funny thing over here.
You see up until the death of the little fat cunt, the official name of the fascist regime was national-
catholicism. Religion, more precisely, catholicism, was present at every level of society, with priests moonlighting as civil servants. After democracy arrived, the separation of church and state became an actual thing, although there's still more than a few leftovers and loose ends that remain from that era.
The thing is despite such strongly religious influence not so long ago. Most people, with the exception of
those guys (you know which ones I mean, we all know at least one) don't give a rat's ass about religion itself. Very few people I know actually bother going to church, and no one cares what they have to say.
The problem is when you confuse idolatry with religion, which catholicism is rife with. Most of which is even officially sanctioned. For example I live in a town that is famous for its fervour when celebrating the "semana santa". When the time comes, everybody's out showing the utmost reverence to the images being paraded, and wearing more religious medals around their necks than B.A. Baracus, while declaring themselves devout christians. The thing is; outside of worship for, "
their virgin" and "
their christ" they don't think much at all about religion and seldom go to church. In fact the different brotherhoods and guilds that form around these images are more like social clubs than actual cults.
