Stilton: I've 'got some ideas', which is about as prepared as I get before setting creativity to paper. I trust in a combination of inspiration, sweat and dread that I won't hit the deadline with enough words. Hopefully I'll manage to produce something which won't be immediately forgotten :/
avatar
FearfulSymmetry: Well, that's a perfectly valid strategy too. Whatever works, right? :) I know I need to plan because otherwise I get horribly stuck and my inspiration just fizzles out. Unfortunately it took me several years to figure that out. :P
Trial and error, the great educator!

Stilton: I might keep the movie watching chronological this time - they'll get gradually more 'colourful' as the 31st closes in, culminating (probably) with John Carpenter's flagship film of the season. I was a kid when I saw it at the cinema and it scared the crap out of me. It isn't actually a 'horror' film, but that doesn't matter, its perfect for Halloween night.

I'm laughing too - I remember our jolly Christmas conversations from last year ;-)

Set and forget is a good way of looking at it, thanks :-)

CarrionCrow: Sounds like a good plan. One incredibly easy way to screw up such a plan with a single switch - replacing the original Halloween with Rob Zombie's remake. That'd be like replacing all the bottles of champagne at a New Year's party with turpentine and animal urine two minutes before midnight.

Holiday conversations are always fun. Hell, they're the only enjoyable thing surrounding the days themselves.

Not a problem. Had to do that more than once to preserve some sanity during the backup process.
I don't know why people feel the need to make remakes of classic films. Part of the reason they're classics is to do with when they were made. A remake of Jaws would likely be bad, even if the shark didn't look like a load of hydraulics covered with painted canvas.

Don't start me off....

This gaming obsession we're all suffering with can certainly stress the system. I've been getting too many late nights recently and not sleeping well enough when I do get to bed. Got to take better care of myself.

Have you tried either of the Metro games? They're a good price and the reviews seem to be favourable.

They remake good things because they want brand recognition whenever possible. Course, they almost always turn good things into bad things in the process, but none of the idiots in charge seem to be getting that point.

-laughing hard- I watched both of those a while back. They were bad. Really, really bad. If you want to watch at least decent movies from Zombie, would suggest House of 1,000 Corpses (not so much Devil's Rejects) and Lords of Salem.

Late nights...bad sleep...sounds familiar. Good thing you've got the self-awareness to see and correct the problem before it starts sucking the energy out of you.

Played a little bit of Metro 2033. Seems like the series is a change of pace from the military FPS formula. Will be grabbing them before the weekend's over, I think.
Only played the first metro game didn't like it all that much.

Double dragons the only game from this sale I'd want, then again I'm an arcade junkie.

The promo movie on the GOG page is impressive. Good music (hope its in the game), great visuals, and the kind of apocalyptic atmosphere that makes me wish I was there. A bit of social and environmental deconstruction now and then makes Stilton happy :-) I'll probably be grabbing them, too.

What were the downsides?

Been so long and have partied since then, I just remembered not liking it much. I preferred the stalker games over metro.

They look pretty similar. I've got one of the Stalkers - hopefully the others will turn up in a sale sometime soon.

Raiden 3 would be right up my alley too, but this sale is kind of meh.
Although the arcade stuff is absolutely what GOG should be selling, it drives me kind of nuts with its intensity. Its a full on assault on the senses and I can feel it boiling my brain :-) I'd rather take things at a slower pace and have a story to follow. I appreciate the arcade side, but its not really my thing.

Yeah I have a shit ton of arcade stuff on ps3 and pc, a favorite type of game of mine.
Looks like a gig is downloading in around 10-12 minutes at a 1.15-1.25 MB/s rate. I'm getting 1.42-5 a lot of the time (wow!), so looking at things at a per gig rate the downloads aren't doing too badly. Trouble is I've got about a billion gigs yet to get through.

I'm trying to look on the bright side, that's all...

I'm surprised I can even think straight at this o'clock in the morning.

Damn you're up late. :p

I've bonded with my chair. This is what addiction leads to. I'm a Viking chair now, with bloodshot eyes and a mind that fixates on download rates and perceived completion dates...

ITS ALL GONE HORRIBLY WRONG!!!

But my downloads are still working, so that's nice :-)

I was doing that same thing but with my old FIFA games on my origin.
Right, that's me done for the night/morning.

Sleep well and the fun will resume in a few hours!
Well, that sucked. Dozed off watching a movie, got woken up and shanghaied into running errands.

I need to start putting a do not disturb sign outside my door.
