Stilton: This is useful as regards GG and DRM.
Sounds like uncertainty mixed with a pain in the ass.

As much as I dislike Steam's setup, at least I know where I stand with it. Pay money, get rental item.

LOL funny new avatar. True fact - I always thought it was a tree before I got my new monitor.

With GamersGate "DRM-free" games, the games really are DRM-free, it's just a pain in the ass to download them. Instead of downloading the installer directly, it downloads some encrypted file... but there's a workaround that is fairly simple that I think is covered in that thread... something along the lines of... before closing the downloader, look for a temporary folder in your "downloads" folder for the game, and for a brief time just at the end of the download, you'll have the actual .exe file in that folder, and you can copy it and paste it elsewhere.
Pretty absurd to have to do, but it's not too much work, and I've found it worth it on the occasion that GG has had a DRM-free version of a game I couldn't find elsewhere.
I should have just said, "yep, that thread has the answer," as my explanation probably just added to the confusion... sorry about that ;)

*oh, and hello, dear folks of the thread! Still mostly lost in space, but it could also be called "exploring in space," which sounds more ambitious and exciting. ;)
Take care, all, and have a lovely time-of-day! I'll most likely be sleeping soon.

I'm eager to see some talk of good builds for Age of Decadence... tried it in Early Access and got repeatedly pummeled by the first or second fight.

**and yeah, I actually read a bit further in that thread, and it was in fact explained better about two posts down. Haha. I need sleep. Or coffee. Or to nap while getting a coffee infusion. Ooh, yeah, I like that last one a lot.

Thanks for the input :-) The fact that you have to jump through hoops with GG, if only a little, still makes it a no go for me. I think Slitherine are the same, and there's plenty of stuff there that I'd like. Its wrong, in my opinion - when you buy a game its yours to install and play as you please. Publishers have to trust that the great majority of the public are honest citizens and not insult them with the 'suspicion' (and that's what it is) that they are not. It pisses me off mightily when I buy a DVD and the first two minutes before the menu appears are filled with some ugly as shit piece of invasive dung warning me not to make pirate copies of the film I just paid for. GOG has the right formula, and if they don't have all the games I want then I'll go without. So there :-)

I was just telling EiT the other day that the BigFish client is very small and unobtrusive.
It is DRM as far as I know but it installs in just a few seconds and uninstalls just as quickly when you don't want it anymore.
Not at all like Steams client.

Hi Endre. Did you post ages ago that you'd got something from Slitherine? I now understand (just checked) that they don't actually use DRM, but they have some kind of validation system. Have you experience this?

That's what I did, I just installed the client long enough to install PQ, then removed the client. Am I correct in remembering something about being limited as far as re-installations of owned BFG games goes, though? I could be making that up out of nowhere, but I could swear I read somewhere that you can only install their games once, or maybe just a few times... my memory is the stuff of legends. ;)

I think you get five installations. After that your PC explodes (I think) ;-)

They email a serial number used to install the game. I think you can use it as often as you want.
If you then register that number with them you get a Steam Key, kind of a best of both worlds thing.

I've never tried removing the client and then playing the games, the client doesn't bother me, plus it's an updater.
I've installed one of mine on 3 machines so far so I'm not sure about the limit.

If you're new to BigFish your first game is only $2.99 anyway, not much to lose. :-)

Think I'm going to start up a Puzzle Quest 1 game to go with my other new character. Turns out that sorcerers are kinda shit at the beginning, so it sounds like a good idea to have something else going when I get killed too much.
Well I'm sick. Yay. Common colds are so much fun.

How are you GOGers? I know I'm not the only one left in this ghost er...forum thread!

Yeah, they're fantastic. If misery loves company is any consolation, you're not the only one who's been dealing with that lately.

Doing all right here, bouncing from time kill to time kill. How's it going on your end aside from the illness?

Yeah, tis the season and all that.

I'm mostly good here. I just spent my first few minutes in Eldritch and did run into some spookiness. Not the "oh no I'm gonna cry" type of spookiness, but the "well how the hell can I either kill this thing or run away from it?!" type.

I'm not fully up to date on Lovecraftian monsters but I'm fairly certain I ran into a whole herd of shoggoths, thanks to a "trick or treat" option in the very beginning of the game. They can follow you pretty much anywhere you can go and seem to be invincible, great thing for a newbie to learn haha.

How's the match-3 games going, or have you moved on from them?

Sounds like fun, especially with the unkillable monsters.

They're slowly rolling along. They're time destroyers, it's going to be a while before they're dead.

Eh, as long as the unkillable monsters are rare then I won't mind them popping up occasionally. It's always kinda nice to have at least one monster that keeps you on your toes no matter how powerful you've become.

Any match-3 game you'd recommend? I'm completely unfamiliar with that genre.
