FearfulSymmetry: Sorry to hear that, I hope you get better soon! I'm fighting off the early stages of the flu myself, and the rainy/windy weather outside is not making things better ...
** Recovery Hugs too **
Hey... Don't come and infect us with all your germs... !! ;-)

FearfulSymmetry: Still, I'm in a pretty good mood! I just had to take an exam for one of my electives, and it's possibly the easiest exam I've done so far. There were only 50 multiple choice questions, while I'm used to having to do essay exams. And I got the same amount of time (3 hours) for 50 multiple choice questions as I normally get for 3 essay questions. I was done after about 40 minutes, though. :P Now all that remains is to see whether my positive mood matches my grade.
Congrats for your exam ! I hope you'll have a great grade. What was it about, if I may ask ? :)

l0rdtr3k: Also *pushes M&Ms bowl* want some?
Ô__Ô M&Ms... (drools)

moonshineshadow: *hug because you are also part of the club now* But yeah, it would have been nice to not get this bug ;-)
Thanks for the Hug... ** Stressful Hug back **
I hope they will fix that bug quickly...

ddickinson: Well there is a chance he won't see them. No everyone reads through the thread to see what they missed, especially in a thread like this where the topic changes all the time. But I don't mind if he reads the comment, it was all true. Even if he still refuses a gift, I still won't mind. I will just carry on with our little game of him trying to avoid my gifts and me trying to gift him. One day he will break and accept my gifts. :-)
I'm sure you'll succeed !!! ;-) **fingers crossed**

avatar
ddickinson: Thank you for the M&Ms but I will pass. I'm covered it mud and dirt at the moment, and while I don't mind that, I don't want to eat M&Ms covered in dirt. I finally got a protective cover for my iPad, so at least the dirt doesn't stop me passing the time on the forum :-)
Lol... Just like yesterday ?... Now I can't picture you other than covered in mud and dirt... ;-p

Well don't tell Endre, he likes to picture farm girls in short denim shorts and a small chequered shirts. :-)

I have been doing a lot of digging and repair work lately, and sadly it can be very muddy, especially as it keeps raining. I'm not always totally covered in mud, usually just my boots and trousers, and maybe my hands (farms are not the cleanest places). I only have mud/dirty on my hands and boots today, so it's not all bad. :-)

It was about semantics, along with a bit of pragmatics and formal logic. It was just an introductory course, though, so it wasn't too hard. I study English myself, but due to my choice of subjects I missed out on doing any semantics classes, so I decided to pick one up as an elective.

Hehe, I didn't think about any short denim nor small chequered shirts, I promise... It's a bit too chilly for that... ^^
Good luck for all your (dirty) work, then !!! ;-p
How you're doing my little biscuit?*hugs*
Hope you're having a nice day.

Shorts or a skirt/dress are okay in the summer, but in this weather it's some good jeans and a nice thick top. Way too cold to be trying to look sexy in this weather. :-)

Farm work is generally dirty work, especially in winter. I'm used to it, and after a quick shower (and a nice soak in the bath), I'm as good as new. Ready for some sleep and the next day where I can get all muddy/dirty again. :-)

I have absolutely no doubt about it ! ^^

That sounds really interesting... You must have a very high level in English ! :)

I don't think I'm cut out for the farm life. It's not that I'm squeamish about dirt, but I'm sure glad I don't have to get muddy every day! Nice warm baths tend to fix a lot, though. :)
I really don't mind if the short denim shorts and small chequered shirts are muddy. :-)

Hi folks, just refreshed for the thrill of seeing my account tab disappear, cool!

LaPtiteBete, give your little one a small frozen carrot to teethe on, it works a miracle, honestly. ;)
My next door neighbors actually bought me a present for telling them about it.

In general, yes, though I still manage to produce some incredibly awkward sentences at times. :P And of course, I'm not a native speaker. My accent could use some work - right now it sounds like I don't come from anywhere ... On the other hand, I do have a lot of useless knowledge about literary works and old language forms! Yay!

I know someone who's gonna be really disappointed... heehee ^^
I understand... I'm looking forward to get back home, and take a warm shower too... And it's even much more pleasant when you've spent all day outside/covered with dirt !! ;-)

Ho, really ? Ô__ô ... Thanks for the tip, I'll try that... I'd try everything in fact. It doesn't sound silly at all... I'll buy some carrots tomorrow ! ... And I'll tell you if it works on owlets too :-) Thanks !!

I'm sure if you grew up on a farm then you would feel the opposite. I wouldn't change the job for any in the world. I love it. You are right about nice warm baths, they are wonderful.

So you don't mind them muddy, just as long as they are short and tightly fitting. :-)

Good morning, Endre. How are you feeling today?

I prefer a nice hot bath over a shower, it's so much nicer and helpful, especially to ease the muscles after a hard day. I get a quick shower first, just to wash off all the dirt, as I'm not keen on soaking in a bath full of mud and dirt, unless it's a fancy mud bath. :-)

It's surely WAY better than my shitty french accent !! :-D

adaliabooks: Yeah, that's the plan. It's just based on random noise at the moment. I'll need to refine it to make continents and oceans more defined. The river generation is the next step, need to do a few more calculations first (downslopes along the edges, moisture levels). If you have any ideas please let me know, I'm learning as I go :)
Concerning your random world generator, land masses, oceans and rivers.

You might try having the primary functions focus on just creating the continents, defining a minimum distance that they can be from each other, and a maximum percentage of land to water ratio for the type of map, small, medium or large (and perhaps have an option for creating a map with just small islands).

Also try setting parameters for the maximum and minimum elevations / depth, whilst defining a larger percentage of "flat" area that will still give you peaks and valleys. Then the generator can use some small functions to shape mountain ranges, valleys, plains lands, and possible inland lakes and run smooth transitioning process between these regions.

In this way the random generator can run a process at the end to fill the rest of the map with water.

You will probably have to create separate river definitions (if you want river barriers / crossings to be part of the game), to have two or three generic river types, for the textures to match the types of terrain (rocky, grassy plains, snow and sandy banks, as examples). Rivers could then be added by the generator near the end of the process to connect the larger bodies of water, following the contours of the height maps.

In the final process, you could add the temperature zones, for the various regions, unless you want to make the whole world be climate oriented. Hope that is helpful. ;)
