Hello everyone!

I had a really unusual experience today while walking back home. On a corner in the street near my home I saw a guy playing a trumpet. He was just standing there playing some jazz.

I was feeling down for reasons I cannot fathom and his tune brightened my day. I don't know how long I stood there listening but after some time I approached him and I whispered a thanks. He nodded and kept playing and I resumed my way home.

I should have taken a picture because I realize that this story sounds like a fantasy.
Sorry for these disjointed sentences. I just wanted to share this with you anyway.
Good evening :)

toxicTom: I can dimly remembe you asked me about it... Spreading the love :-D

MongoDB is a NoSQL database system, pretty awesome, and since I've met the people behind it - they're pretty awesome too.
https://www.mongodb.org/

And other than having the pleasure of working with this stuff in my previous employement, I'm in no way assiciated with them.
I really like it - thanks again for it :D
Sounds great although my knowledge of database systems is limited to say the least ;)

Very cool story, I believe it because I've seen it.
When I lived in Chicago street musicians were quite common, it made a great break in an otherwise crappy day.
They're not very common where I live now, which is rather sad.
REROS FOR EVERYBODY!

People playing music in the streets is quite rare in my city. In fact I never heard before outside some organized events where musicians were hired or invited to play on bus or metro stations. And I didn't see any indication of this in this case.

Tallima: Inflation is the increase in size of the nothing between matter that occurs far faster than the speed of light. Since nothing has no mass, then it doesn't invalidate Einstein's speed limit.

Dark matter does not inflate b/c it has mass.

The problem with inflation is that the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB) shows exceptional temperature homogeneity throughout the universe WAY before that could ever happen. To get the CMB that we see while assuming inflation is true, either a very organized energy/mass universe would have interacted with it in ways that defy physics or thermodynamic laws were reversed/broken. But variable speed of light solves the problem. And it solves the problem while getting to it through pure math (and other methods). I'm rather lost on the exact math, but it involves getting things down to plank units and then solving for different variable. In doing so, c became a non-c. It became c(t). And c(low t) was astronomically huge.

apehater: before i go on, i'll have to ask, if my knowledge is enough to discuss with you further about this. i have almost no knowledge about experimental physics, my knoledge is complete covered by this book (physics, tipler)

my knoledge in theoretical physics covers mechanics and advanced mechanics, classic field theory/electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, higher quantum mechanics (but no quantum field theory), basics of special relativity, statistical physics. no astrophysics or general relativity.
You should be able to understand roughly the same place I am (physics classes in engineering school, light reading on the side). I like what I saw with the theory, which is grand. But I also am completely surprised that it's not covered in basic science classes when inflation is. Of course, I haven't been in school for quite some time, so it might be taught. But I haven't heard it from the lips of any kids. I only hear about inflation. So much so, that I was never told about the massive holes in the inflation theory that, until recently (due to high-precision of describing the thermal layout of the CMB), were only massive, not rationally suspect.

(this is my last post for the nigh (and possibly until next Monday -- I have surgery on Friday and I'm working out of town on Thursday) but feel free to reply and I'll get to it)

that's jazz! :) Awesome!
I used to hate my life back in the early 20's, but playing Rise and Shine by John Coltrane and stuff like in the morning got me suddenly to feel alright and going to work wasn't such a dreadful thing anymore. Go figure :)
Also some old blues might do the trick.
Well. Guess it can't be avoided any longer. After a shitty slasher movie and a mediocre crime movie, I guess it's time to go back to my current favorite game, Winter Assault! (Hate you so much, game. If I'm going to play a DOW 1 game, it's Dark Crusade or nothing.)

Morning Crow! Or Evening!
I have no idea what that stuff is but good luck with it!
One thing I like about good old games is that there's always a way to the end.
You can't get stuck for good. At least in my experience.

Sadly I don't know which music the guy was playing because jazz is a genre I'm not very familiar with. And It would be rude to interrupt him just to ask this.

Good morning. =)

DOW is short for Dawn of War, a series of real-time strategy games based on Warhammer 40K.
Problem is, aside from Dark Crusade, they all pretty much suck. (Aside from maybe the first one if you've never played the series before.)

Yeah, the developers who let players get stuck to the point of having to reload, if not ruining their game all together, weren't great in number.

Here's a quick almost-not-accurate jazz lesson:
Jazz evolved from blues (maybe).
There was Louie Armstrong and such...
Then there came bebop at some point.
That's pretty much "everything goes" (almost), lots of experimenting, pieces got longer.
Coltrane, Monk, Davis...
Then Miles and others got into fusion jazz... New instruments and who knows what :)
That was in the seventies I guess...
Jazz is huge concept these days...
Wish ZenWan was here, he could do a better summary :)

Alright. Sounds kind of interesting :) can't do research at work aboit it more, my internet connection is a small smart phone until I get home... I'm guessing it's those mecha guys in a futuristic setting? Used to play some board game with those big armoured guys fighting aliens. That was lots of fun :) maybe a few playthroughs later I'll try one of those that gog is selling.

Yes, it's the one with the guys in ridiculously huge armor fighting with aliens. The nice thing about Dark Crusade is that you can play as the aliens.

I think you're referring to Space Hulk. Have heard from multiple sources that the board game is good. Shame the video game version also sucks.

Ah yeah that was the name! :) there were also expansions for it. There was also a computer game called Space Crusade, it was okayish, but not a great game. I remember the interface was rather well done and gameplay. But there was lots of repetition involved. I had that on amiga some 15 years ago :)

I've heard of that one, but never had a chance to play it. Amiga centered around Mechforce and Eye of the Beholder 1 for me.
