l0rdtr3k: *drinks coffee* Hello there people. How you're doing?
I just woke up and I'm still tired. Just took a shower and now I'm enjoying a good breakfast.
good morning *hug* sounds like a good way to start the day :-)

avatar
LaPtiteBete: Good morning/afternoon/other, everybody !!!
I hope you're having a lovely day :-)
hey :-) *big hug* how are you doing?
avatar
EndreWhiteMane: I am a complete greenhouse fanatic, wish I had the space to build one where I live now. Are these for starter plants or will you be maturing produce in them?
If you mention hydroponics I WILL be buying a ticket to England very soon! :-)
avatar
ddickinson: We already have a few greenhouses for starter plants, but we want some extra and larger greenhouses to be able to fully mature produce as well, especially as we are trying to see how feasible not slaughtering animals is this year. It's quite hard work building them, especially with all the other things that need doing around the farm. But I enjoy it, it's been quite a challenge figuring it all out, and hopefully come summer it will all be worth the effort and the cost. No plans for hydroponics at the moment, but it is something we talked about if things turn out okay with the greenhouses.
Actually sounds like my kind of work, I love to build things. I have room for a tiny house here, perhaps 4 by 5 meters. Problem is maintaining the proper temperature in such a small house is virtually impossible unless you tend to it constantly. Oversleep one day and you fry everything inside. Even with expensive automatics it just doesn't work out.

penumbren: Thank you! I'm really hoping for a quick recovery, too. Dad's been doing better, although getting his stitches out a couple days ago had some - as he put it - "sideways" news, as there's another part of his foot that they're concerned about now. We're hoping that a few more weeks of IV antibiotics will clear it up without need for further surgery. We're pretty much coping well, overall. He's keeping a positive attitude about it, as far as I can tell.

I must have missed the giveaway announcement; thank you. :) I'll take a look.
I'm sorry to hear about them being concerned about another part of his foot. I hope the antibiotics will be able to sort it. It's good that they caught it early and can keep an eye on it, so even if the worst does happen, they can hopefully keep the dangers to a minimum.
avatar
ddickinson: Star Wars/Lucas Arts Giveaway!
Aha. That's very generous of you! If I may, I'd like to be in for Star Wars: Rebellion. It looks like an interesting game and I never have played any of the SW games.

Also, I'm very glad indeed to hear that your parents are doing better! I must have missed your posts during my not-feeling-wonderful phase, here. That's excellent news and I hope things continue to improve. :)

That's pretty much what we're hoping. The news that a long-time friend of ours back in Montana, who also has diabetes, is going to have his foot amputated in a few weeks due to diabetic complications, sort of stacks onto the whole anxiety-about-dad thing. The friend is being incredibly upbeat, and he's a bit younger than me, so I'm sure he'll come through with flying colors. He's in the SCA, and already making pirate jokes, so... not really worried about that one. The timing is a bit weird, but I'm trying to remain positive that all will work out well for everyone.

moonshineshadow: Huh? Guess I missed that part I thought it was about LucasArts games. I will go and check my wishlist to see if there is anything that I really have a desire to play in the near future :-)
avatar
ddickinson: It was about Lucas Arts games mainly, but I knew there was a chance of only Star Wars games, and I wanted everyone on the thread to be able to enter and maybe win themselves a game. If none of the games appeal to you from the current batch, feel free to pick any game on GOG ($9.99 or under).
ok I checked my wishlist and I would be interested in trying Heretic Kingdoms, so I would like to enter for that. Thanks :-)

I love building and repairing things as well. I love a good hard days work, so farming is so well suited for me. We tend to manage our greenhouses manually (primarily my father and brothers do them). They can have automatic temperature control (opening windows etc) and watering, but sometimes it's better to do it by hand and keep a better eye on them. It is nice to have the automated system as a backup, just in case.

Thank you I'm hoping that by the end of next month that both my parents will be well on their way to recovery.

You sure can enter for Rebellion. I will add your name to the list in a minute. Good luck!

All you can do is try to be positive and look on the bright side, even if the bright side seems like a very dim candle at some times. When I was at college, there was a man who lived next door to where I was living who only had one leg. He used to always make pirate jokes and dress up as a pirate for Halloween. I think being jovial and cheery help to cope with such things. I know that works for me and some of the hardships I've had to go through. I really do hope that everything will be fine and that you all manage okay.
