EndreWhiteMane: For a long time after I stopped using alcohol as a 'medication' I used to just have to wait until I was so exhausted I would basically pass out to get any sleep, so I can certainly empathize with you.
In addition to the 'life' saying this has been on my wall in some form for the last 30+ years.
tinyE: Far out, I'm an alcoholic too. :D Of course I can't regret everything because living in a bottle did help me beat cancer, regardless of what the doctors say. :P When I was done with that is when it really became a problem and when I finally quit I swore I'd never touch it again, but man sometimes that really does suck. God I wish I could go back to being a drunk; I was so good at it!
Yeah, I've talked about being a drunk around here before. ;) You just recently got off the lovely stuff again and that can be a real tough road. After many years off I'm very grateful to be able to leave it alone.
I understand what you mean about it getting you through a hard time, been there. Problem is that for some of us the stuff itself then becomes the 'hard time'. :/ Hang tight, you know where to find me if things get dicey and you want someone to yell at for a while. :-) And yeah, I was a 'blue ribbon' one too. ;)

HypersomniacLive: That's more or less what's happening here, sleep comes when the body completely shuts down, as the brain won't.
Thankfully (I think) I never was much of a drinker, and never was/ am tempted to resort to it when things got/ get tough in life.
Ah yes, I know this one and try to keep it in mind and apply it, but the last part can be pretty tricky.
Yes, it can. ;)
