CarrionCrow: Good morning/afternoon, everyone.

Hopefully you're all having a decent weekend so far at least.
Good afternoon - doing fine here. What about you?

avatar
BillyMaysFan59: Happy Saturday everyone

Might go play some games unless something gets in the way
Hello. That sounds good :)

LaPtiteBete: Hey again :)
Things are not going too bad now... No insane trafic jams, no car problems... **crossing feathers**
I'm even being productive ; I finished the doll for my owlet \o/ ... I'm really satisfied. I particularly love its hippie hair :D ... I'd love to show you some pics, but I can't with my phone (they're too big for GOG) :-\
How are you doing, everybody ?
**Big happy tired hugs**
Bonjour Owl *big hug*
That's good news :)

Good to see things are going better, hopefully that will be the one rough spot for the trip. You shouldn't be ready to scream during a vacation.

CarrionCrow: How is Freespace? They look good, they're just more titles I've got in the "I'm going to play them, honest!" pile, so I haven't started them yet.
avatar
BillyMaysFan59: Nice space sim, but for the best experience you'll want to look into the Freespace 2 Open Source Code Project, then look into FSPort. Do you own Freespace 2 as well?
Yes, I have both of them. Haven't really done any modding before, though.

Playing Victor Vran with Crypt of the Necrodancer music over the top of it. Damn good soundtrack, looking forward to it getting to GOG. Think I have something like 70 challenges to go, and this game can go on the dead pile.

moonshineshadow: I'm doing ok, I am just in lurker mode.
Before I forget...-waves at the shadowy lurker lady- ;)

Nice. The Crypt of the Necrodancer soundtrack is awesome and awaiting its release on GOG as well. And i'm getting impatient ;)

Any idea how long that will take to completely beat it?

Honestly not sure. Roughly 40 hours in now, and there are still quite a few challenges I'm nowhere near strong enough to clear.
Definitely wouldn't recommend the game on hard mode to someone who just wants a fun time. Hard more is not fun.

The more I think about it, the more I'm considering calling it done by just beating the game. I don't want to sink another 20 hours into something that has pretty much lost all enjoyment for the sake of saying I beat challenges in a video game.
Contrary to popular belief, I actually do play games to have fun.

I couldn't agree with you more. I play games for fun or for story/characters, so I play on the easiest setting or normal. I don't want to get stuck on puzzles or fights, because then I lose my enjoyment. And I've never cared about getting achievements.
Question for everyone... Have you ever bought a game on GOG that you already had a DRM-free digital copy of?

I don't mind challenge, or frustration, or setbacks, or getting stuck, so long as I can still feel a sense of underlying fairness to the process. If the design is good, you can feel it. You might get angry at yourself, you might get mad at the game, but it still feels like the reason why you're losing is because you're personally not doing it right.

Perfect example - Super Meat Boy. Infamously difficult, but extremely well built. That game dances on the razor's edge of fairness and actively trying to break your spirit. That game is godsdamned infuriating at times, but every single time except for one, whenever I died, I knew it was because of my need to get better, move faster, think faster.

As for achievements, they're secondary, definitely. Played Sleeping Dogs from beginning to end, and the only thing keeping me from getting achievements for 100 percent completion was that 3 random events in the game hadn't triggered. I might've gone back and run around town until they did, but I'd already beaten the game. To me, it was done, achievements or not.

I don't think so. Planning on doing that for Serpent of the Staglands, but haven't done so yet.

I like a little bit of a challenge, but not too much. If it's too easy, I might get bored... but if it is too hard, I might get annoyed and quit. Ideally, I'd like to die/lose/get stuck about once every 97 minutes :-)

I did so for Sacred 2 (already had it on GamersGate), because it came with a hell of a lot of extras, but I avoid doing so in general.

I haven't, but right now, I have this crazy obsession to buy Gemini Rue, just because it is the only Wadjet Eye game I don't have on GOG. I already have it DRM-free from Indie Royale though... also, I plucking hate that game, I don't even want the copy I have XD

Extras were the justification I used to buy GOG backups of some CDs I had... Giants: Citizen Kabuto has a really excellent soundtrack :-)

By the way, hello Grargar. Thanks again for the username. I love it :-)

Oh well. Always wanted to die laughing myself silly. ;)

Also, does this mean we're not getting a Let's Play?

Additional - Of the Wadjet games, which one would you recommend to play first?

I imagine it would be a pretty good way to go ;-)

That might be the most boring LP of all time. It would be 83 minutes of me playing the same sh*tty (and totally out of place in an adventure game) shooting sequences over and over. A picture-in-picture LP would have some great shots of me falling asleep on my keyboard at least :-p

Hey, at least there is a soundtrack that wasn't included with the Indie Royale version ;-)

I see. 40 hours and more is quite impressive for agame of that price-tag. Well that's understandable - playing a game for the sake of beating challenges is nothing i'd like to do....

You play games to enjoy them? How dare you :P
