EndreWhiteMane: Aloha all, I'm doing fair to partly cloudy today. Hope everyone is OK+ and having a good day.

Except DD who I can only offer a *get well very soon American bearhug* :/
Someday please share more of what's going on with you so we can make all kinds of medically un-informed suggestions on how to get better. ;)

Woke up to a weekend sale and panicked, I have a Dr appt tomorrow and thought I had missed it. :-)
Anyone ever play Firestarter? Looks good but the reviews aren't so hot.
avatar
ddickinson: Hello, Endre. Thank you for the hug. :-)

If I shared more of what is going on people would just worry, and I would not want that. Although it could be fun seeing all the un-informed suggestions. :-)

Did you see anything from the sale that catches your eye? Judging y a comment on the release thread, I think BMF has played Firestarter.
Not my fault that she laughed for 5 minutes.

We're already worried you silly girl. ;)
I'll go check the release thread, thanks.

Good morning. =)

Honestly hadn't heard of that title before today, but it looks interesting. Might end up grabbing it later on.

CarrionCrow: Keep a phone nearby at all times, and if it gets worse, call the doctor. If you're feeling really badly and it's worrying you, call the doctor now.
avatar
ddickinson: Thank you for your concern, but it's not quite that bad yet. I do have my phone nearby, and my partner calls all the time to check on me. I don't think it is anything serious, just the body adjusting to things after the big shock it had. I am seeing my specialist tomorrow, so I will talk more about it with her then.

But thank you for being so sweet and concerned. I do appreciate it.

*big thank you hug*
Okay. Good to know you'll be seeing a doctor tomorrow, no long wait crap involved.

You're very welcome.

Additional - Think I'm going to get some sleep that doesn't involve my computer desk.
Have a good day, everyone. Talk with you later on. =)

Which is why I regret mentioning anything to begin with. I should have just made up some different reason to why I was away. I hate to make people worry.

*big return hug*

I am getting some more tests done and getting some results as well as my checkup, so it should be a fun day.

Have a lovely sleep!

j0ekerr: Morning Endre.

Usually that sort of thing would have also made me think I'd lost a day, but today I had an absolute ironclad conviction that it was Thursday.

By the way, Remember that post about mammary glands on dinosaurs?

It might be that rule 34 applies to manga and anime as well. Who knew.

Btw you shouldn't call your girlfriend bacon. That's not nice.

I think it's right up your alley.

Frustrating, jerky camera, repetitive environments and a bland premise. It does seem to have different characters to keep things a bit more fresh but that's probably like throwing a mentos on a compost heap.

You should time how long it takes for the game to start making you berate it and its developers. Bonus points if it inspires you to create florid descriptions about the mating habits of the developers' ancestors.

That is good.

Best wishes and some advice, keep away from the current mobile bundle if you don't want to receive another nasty shock.

I think you underestimate my ancient phones capabilities. :-)
Plus those games look mostly rubbish, like almost every game these days using the Warhammer name. There are so many good games that could be made from almost every genre, but Games Workshop seems to stick to horrible developers making such rubbish games.
What's this? Someone is starting fires? >:-D
Oh, it's the name of the classic release today :-(
Ho wait, I love new releases :-)
Plus, it's an FPS :-O

I really enjoyed Dawn of War 2, but then, I knew absolutely nothing about Warhammer when I went into it. I'm sure I'd have a different opinion if I did.
I just wanted a good RTS/RTT game without base building or resource gathering for a change, and I was pleased that I got exactly what I wanted :-)
avatar
j0ekerr: SOLD!
I particularly liked that the background setting is interesting and well developed, that's a very important part of any game for me, although on the other hand, characterization seems to be a bit weak.
Dammit, now you are going to hate it, and I'll be responsible. I need to keep my mouth shut about recommending games :-p [/obsessive]

I was not too keen on what I have seen and heard about DOW 2. I think using a WW2 based engine for Warhammer 40K did not work. The whole squad and loot grinding is silly, not to mention the poor storyline, cutscenes, and the fact the whole cover system soon becomes useless. They should have kept the game as an RTS, not a loot based game. DOW 1 was quite good, the first game at least, with each expansion it got worse.

The DoW games are universally considered as pretty good. There are some minor hiccups along the way (koff*soulstorm*coff) but they're not bad at all. As is Space Marine, I thought it was a pretty solid and enjoyable 3rd person action shooter. Not a marvel but very fun to play.

With one or two exceptions, most everything else is crap.

I think after DOW 1 they just started cutting corners. Dark Crusade and SoulStorm are just skirmish missions for the most part wrapped in a very sparse plot. DOW 2 was just them using their WW2 engine with a 40K skin which did not really work well. I am not saying DOW 2 is a terrible game, but the last one was just the same levels for each race, nothing different between any of the campaigns. Relic just got super lazy. DOW 2 was not really a RTS, as there was not strategy involved. It was all just rinse and repeat with your almost unstoppable squad.

I have played a little of Space Marine, and that looks pretty good so far. At least they seemed to put some effort into it.

I don't remember a story at all... Something about... people? bugs? eh, whatever :-p
I was quite annoyed and pissed about bossfights though. They were totally out of place, and were really nothing more than just long, boring whittle-fests. Which is strange, because I specifically remember when Relic was promoting Company of Heroes, they went on and on about how there would be no whittling in the game, and how they always found that so annoying.
I think I have DoW somewhere... I should give that a go sometime.

Have you played the ones recently released on GOG? I'm slightly curious about those, but not curious enough. I'm not really a big TBS player (I don't hate TBS, I'm just not that experienced.)

Exactly, the game was just a lazy attempt using an already excising engine. It was more like a Diablo type game than a RTS game. As evident by the boss battles, the levelling system, and the loot.

DOW 1 is quite good, with a nice storyline. The next expansion was okay. Then Dark Crusade, which is really just skirmish missions with a few proper single player maps. It is fun, but very repetitive and gets dull very quickly. I have not played Soulstorm, but from what Crow says I would avoid it. Which is a shame, as it's the only DOW game with Battle Sisters.

Final Liberation is quite fun. It's a turn based RTS that is very similar to the table top game. It also has some fun FMV cutscenes. The game is not perfect, and it has a few faults, but overall it is a lot of fun and there is a nice mix of units available.
