AgentBirdnest: I don't remember a story at all... Something about... people? bugs? eh, whatever :-p
I was quite annoyed and pissed about bossfights though. They were totally out of place, and were really nothing more than just long, boring whittle-fests. Which is strange, because I specifically remember when Relic was promoting Company of Heroes, they went on and on about how there would be no whittling in the game, and how they always found that so annoying.
I think I have DoW somewhere... I should give that a go sometime.
Exactly, the game was just a lazy attempt using an already excising engine. It was more like a Diablo type game than a RTS game. As evident by the boss battles, the levelling system, and the loot.
DOW 1 is quite good, with a nice storyline. The next expansion was okay. Then Dark Crusade, which is really just skirmish missions with a few proper single player maps. It is fun, but very repetitive and gets dull very quickly. I have not played Soulstorm, but from what Crow says I would avoid it. Which is a shame, as it's the only DOW game with Battle Sisters.
AgentBirdnest: Have you played the ones recently released on GOG? I'm slightly curious about those, but not curious enough. I'm not really a big TBS player (I don't hate TBS, I'm just not that experienced.)
Final Liberation is quite fun. It's a turn based RTS that is very similar to the table top game. It also has some fun FMV cutscenes. The game is not perfect, and it has a few faults, but overall it is a lot of fun and there is a nice mix of units available.
