Just woke up a bit ago, actually.

Didn't get to sleep until even later than I intended. Told someone I would make some discs for them before they had to go to work, then dozed off, so I got to spend an extra hour doing that half-awake and bleary-eyed.
Hopefully I managed to do them without screwing something up in the process.
If so, I'll be making them all over again. -laughs-

It's a quiet day here, which I'll take any day of the week over some kind of ridiculous nonsense.
Thankfully, living in the middle of nowhere does tend to have that perk. =)

I think the people who make the most money from it would encase every player inside a steel block if they thought they had to so people would keep watching and paying while not thinking about players who get hurt all the time.

It's part of the whole American "we love violence, but in a strange, controlled, repressed sort of way" mindset, I think.

-laughs- Well, I've seen recently about Australia's banning of guns, and I don't think that's a bad idea.

Perfect example - walked over to the neighbor's last evening, and he asks me playfully, "I've got a 9 millimeter carbine here, you wanna buy it?", at which point I told him no thank you, I'm not really a gun person so I'll pass.

I don't want to shoot people, and I don't want the temptation of, "hey look, there's an asshole, I've got poor impulse control, a bad temper when they won't shut the fuck up, and a loaded gun, now let's see how messily this situation can be resolved."

But a lot of people don't have that level of self-awareness. Hell, I'm fairly certain that more than a few people are just itching for some way to live out their personal empowerment by way of killing fantasy, so long as they can do it and not have to go to jail for it.

This country isn't mature enough mentally as a society for anyone with an ounce of sense to think that everyone and their dog, whether sane or insane, to have such access to things that make it really really easy to kill lots of people.

Yeah, same here. Aside from the health benefits of being physically active, it's pretty dumb and pointless.
I don't think people should be venerated based on their ability to hit, throw or catch a ball.

That's part of it, but there's more to the whole thing than that.

In no small part, there's this weird, "some day our government's going to do something we hate so much that we can't stand for it, so as long as we've got our guns in our closets we'll be able to fight back" mentality going on.

Course, and again, a lot of people don't have the self-awareness to even be honest with themselves about their motivations about things, not to mention the reality of the situation.

The government here has tanks, bombers and drones that can fire missiles to incinerate your silly ass and be gone without you noticing anything but "Oh my, it sure did get hot and full of shrapnel in here in a hurry. Now where did my limbs go?" before you bleed out and die.

And yet, people still have this collective psychotic delusion that they and their drinking buddies will somehow repel all that, so long as they have their guns.
They equate guns with freedom, rather than realizing that freedom is ultimately one big-assed illusion from top to bottom, inside and out.

In the end, you have the freedom to shut up, work a job that you hate so you don't end up on the street, and keep your fingers crossed 24 hours a day for 50 years that the government manages to not piss away what you've given them to have some kind of retirement before you're too old to be able to use it, or that some corrupt bank or business asshole doesn't decide to rob your retirement fund and get a slap on the wrist while you get left with nothing.

That's it.

And that's assuming you can even get some kind of job to begin with.

On the subject, a very wise person once said in the face of others telling him that living in the U.S. gave him the freedom to stand on stage and say what he wants to say.
His response? "NO, a voicebox gives me the freedom to stand on stage and say what I want to say. It's got nothing to do with America."
