ddickinson: it's strange all the legal issues games have, especially when it's people not knowing who actually owns the rights to it. Let's hope some day it will be on GOG for you.

ddickinson: Maybe not. Is the game:

1. It it a buggy and broken mess of a game?
2. Full of terrible micro-transactions?
3. Accompanied by dozens and dozens of rubbish DLCs?
4. Had developers who delete any negative reviews or criticisms?
5. Does it use only pre-made assets with no effort put into it?
6. Is it very poorly optimised?

If not, then why would Steam want it? :-D

Soccorro: you...you have a point there...

ddickinson: At least Steam has a refund policy now, so developers who make bad games will start to suffer. And Steam keeps their cut even if the game is refunded, so in many ways it's a great way for quality control without Steam having to do anything themselves, which is kind of their whole policy. :-)

Soccorro: i hope it will influence the quality of games... :/

ddickinson: It might, just look at the latest Batman game. Warner lost a lot of money over that mess. The only question is, will they improve and put some effort into games and try to actually treat their customers like customers, or will the big publishers leave and set up their own platforms, free from Steams share of the sales and their refund policy?

After a night of HoI3 (which sadly crashes every hour) and EUIV (in which I severely underestimated Poland, which led to a quick death after 3 months), I am now back to wörk.

Who's still buying AAA games from any of the big 4 (EA, Ubisoft, Sony, Microsoft)? the only thing they've been doing is rehashes and remakes. I prefer to find new games even if they are older or indie.
Only big title I bought this year was Witcher 3 and I am more than content with that.
So fuck their plattforms. There's no interesting stuff on there anyways.

ddickinson: I don't think I have bought an AAA title in years, not since they all started using DRM and made horrible games. But many do seem to love them, how else would they keep going and making more games? Is CD Project a AAA developer? Does AAA refer to the type of game, or the size of the company, as I thought it referred to the big multi-billion dollar companies?

I got the results from my exams, and it was a victory on all fronts :D

That matter aside, I've been trying to mess about with wine a bit. And we had a most dashing D&D session yesterday evening.

I myself don't care for most modern games and their policies; nearly all my games are older then 2005, and then I still avoid most big titles.

money, money ruins everything. And it ruins even more in neo-Liberal countries.
