HypersomniacLive: Interesting - why did you immediately assume that my friend is a he?
No real reason. I guess that being on a forum and thread that is predominantly male, I often default to referring to people online as he. I also tend to associate men having more male friends than female, so subconsciously I must have figured it a safe bet to say he. Of course men can have male and female friends. I am sorry if I caused any offence, that was definitely not my intent.

penumbren: Is it just me, or is this forum just cranky as heck overall today? Well, for the last few days, actually. I understand some of it ($90? Seriously? *facepalm*), but wow. It just seems like a lot of people are not having a good week for a lot of reasons.

Hopefully everyone's happiness increases tomorrow. For now, I'm going to go listen to an audiobook and play Lowlander on my phone until I pass out. (I spent $2 on it yesterday almost as soon as I finished reading the description:
- Lord British approved!
- over 8 colors!
- realistic moving water!
How can you pass up realistic moving water???)
It does seem to be a bit on the less-than-happy side, yes. Whether it's offline problems, or people freaking out because the game they wanted didn't show up, or other people freaking out at overpriced nonsense, that's definitely a vibe.

Also, over 8 colors? That's madness right there. Who in the world feels the need for more than eight colors?
Isn't the realistic moving water innovation enough for a generation?
Some people....always demanding more. -laughs-
Have a good night, and sleep well when you get there. =)

CarrionCrow: The way damage over time status effects are, anything packing a serious one can kill you. When bleeding or poison turns into 15 or 20 damage per round automatically, you're kinda screwed.
avatar
gunsynd: Yep,just out of curiosity what level are your characters??
Also what setting in game are you playing?
Let's see....I've got the main character (the one with the identity crisis so they can have access to all kinds of disparate skills), the shitty paladin, the good soldier that I wish I'd chosen twice rather than having the shitty paladin, a thief, a mage and a cleric.
Playing on old-school veteran mode.

When you start a new game, have 1 Arcane Warrior 2 Built in Useless twit 3 Paladin 4 Mage 5 Thief 6 Diviner.

Now switch players as Left to Right
1AR 2P 3Built in useless twit
Second line 4TH 5MAGE 6Div

With this setup Paladin can heal all characters..

I am also doing that. I know some people refer to others with "they" on the forums, but for me that sounds really strange. So I normally just use he and hope no one is offended by it.
Only when someone tells me the gender I can use the correct one. Or of course with some little help like your girl/boy giveaway. That was a great way to get to the correct way to address people.

Maybe they need a F or M symbol near avatar for people that choose to be identified.

Yep it would be nice if the forums had some more options that users could choose to display. But call me pessimistic in all these years I am now on this forum nothing much changed ever... or some things even got lost. There was a time when you could choose some funny things about who you are. You could choose things like ninja and pirate etc. But this vanished. Not that it was really needed, but it was kinda cute.

Yes,I understand but I even made the mistake of calling Angry Viking Owl (Sir).
Anyhow it was just a thought..

That's one of the reasons I did the girl/boy giveaway, to get to know some other GOG girls. I don't mind been called a he, I understand that gaming is still mainly a boys club. I like how when people get to know who the female users are they do make the effort to say she instead of he.

How are you today?

As long as it was optional, then that sounds like a good idea. Many women don't like displaying their gender online, as there are some creepy guys on the internet. Especially those Australians ;-). (I'm only joking, Austrians are lovely people)

And it is a good thought. Perhaps we should find someone talented who can write a script so that we can add nice functions ourselves.

Could be better, but could also be worse. How are you?

Yes,I see your point also, but I also knowing if I am conversing with a lady I would be a lot more respectful than if I was talking to a Male.

So what to you do, if you don't know the gender. Being half respectful?

I completely understand, it would be nice to know who we were talking to. As I said, as long as a feature was optional, leaving women to show their gender only if they wish, then I think it would be fine. I have never really encountered any ill effects on GOG with me being openly a female, which is one of the nice things about the community here. But sadly many places are not as nice to women online, so many prefer to remain anonymous.

I treat people as they treat me.If I were to disagree with a lady then instead of being headon I would just say (Ok you win)
and move on.
Only as long I know the person is a lady..

On a less serious note, I was just trying to be funny, but with your nice answer I almost feel bad about it.

Openly female... hmmm... made me think for a second. Don't think it's possible for a female NOT to be open. About everything. All the time. I'm pretty sure that if they weren't they'd all be exploding faster than Inspector Gadget's secret messages.
