Doing okay here. Trying to wake up, watching the Witcher crawl along in my downloader and finding myself getting irrationally annoyed at FLAC soundtracks.
I get the purpose, lossless audio is a good thing, but it's still irritating when the frigging soundtrack is larger than the game itself. (Not that that's happening with the Witcher by any means, that game is huge, but it's happened with more than one older title.)
How's your day been going?

Well i like FLAC soundtracks but the tend to get really big and it makes it necessary to convert the music files if i want to have them on my phone. FLAC files are just too big...
From my time playing around with low bitrate encoding I can assure you that you need both a trained ear and above average hearing to notice the difference between a 192 VBR mp3 and the original, when listening at moderate volumes. Which is what most of us will listen them at. Artifacts only zbegin to become noticeable when the volume is raised to levels that will have your neighbors calling the police.
The same goes for this craze of encoding all MP3 files at 320. The artifacts in the encoding are caused by the MP3 format psychoacoustic model, not by a lack of space. You will only ever get any benefit going higher than 256 with a very few extremely complex pieces. And even that is overkill 90% of the time. 192 VBR will serve you well 9 times out of 10.

Yes. The techtree was sometimes acutally quite useful but most of these stuff were usually gimmicks :)

Was going to post a picture, since that'd be much more descriptive, but since I keep getting blocked on the grounds of file size limits, I'll use words instead.
I have 27 folders on-screen right now, all of them with info attached on how many are complete versus how many still need to be downloaded.
Still have hundreds of titles left scattered across multiple letters.

From what you're telling me, it pretty much serves no purpose for someone like me, since I listen almost exclusively on a 20 dollar set of headphones and my hearing is half dead from using those headphones on max volume for years at a time.
I am not surprised. -laughs-

I miss the gimmicks and backstories, though... like "this tank was developed by GDI in 2026 by Dr. Mobius... " or whatever it might say :-p
True :-)
I loved those, too... Even if the weapons were real, I liked having information or stories about them. I remember the first Call of Duty manual listing the caliber and rate of fire for each weapon. Not really information that you need to know to play the game, but fun to read anyway :-)

I haven't kept up to speed on Desura - I don't/didn't use them. I've heard they're gone and then that they're just 'restructuring.' Time will tell, but a whole hell of a lot of people must be using their bandwidth to the max right now...
