Hi everyone - hope you are all well and your day is good. I'll be in and out of the forum a bit for the next few days as I'm trying to organize a house move and its eating quite a lot of my time. Endre has his hospital check-up today, doesn't he? I'll check in later to see how it went. Have lots of fun ;-)
avatar
LaPtiteBete: Fine, thanks :)
I am quite focused on my work...

ddickinson: I'm glad you are doing fine. I hope work is going well?
I've got a lot to do, and not always the adequate motivation... but I have no choice ! :-)
What about you... some (good) news about your mother's health... ?

My mother is doing quite well, thank you. She has been moved out of the intensive care ward and into a high observation ward. The plus side to this is that she has some company as there are other patients there. She has not recovered as much or as quickly as the doctors had hoped, but she is making small steps. They think that in another few weeks she should be able to go home, but then it will still be a while before she is better.

It's good to read she's better, even if not as quick as you wish... one little step a day !
Let we know when she's finally back home !! :-) meanwhile, best wishes for her recovery...
And best wishes for you too, because you must still have a lot to do at your home and farm !
Hi everyone, sounds like everyone is OK today, that's good to hear.;-)
I'm just getting awake and having my first coffee but so far so good here too.
And yes, my 'procedure' is bright and early tomorrow morning.

ddickinson: Good day, everyone!
Good morning ddickinson! Glad to hear you are a happy bird today. I think today I am a Junco, since I finally got to see the adorable little snowbirds over the weekend (they are arriving late this year to my region, due to the late cold weather).

l0rdtr3k: I'm not feeling good. Some shit happened with my family and I just can't handle it.
If you guys don't mind,I'll retire a bit from the forum until the dust settles. I'll be back problably at the end of the week, hopefully I'll be a registered worker by then.
Good luck, and hopefully you can find a stable situation, as well as relief from familial troubles. It's okay to talk things out here too if you need to, we're (mostly) all friends here. :)

LaPtiteBete: good reminder on not buying horror games, for those who aren't really fans of the genre
avatar
AgentBirdnest: advice on not buying stuff just 'cause it's cheap-with an example of a "16-sticks-of-butter-buyer" aunt!
avatar
adaliabooks: good reminder on not buying Agarest
Thanks everybody who gave advice! (Sorry if I delayed in my reply, but I was away for a while).
@LaPtiteBete: I saw Agarest didn't get good reviews myself-but I like manga-style in wargames! But then I already have Jeanne D'Arc , who has this manga-style and a better plot and battles (considering the game unfortunately never got released in Europe-PAL, I had to sail the high seas to get it (:-/), but if it was brought for the pc and released here on GOG, I'd buy it, it's such a good game!) Now regarding scary games: RoTH doesn't seem very scary-it's not like the protagonist is unarmed or something-he has a gun and gets more guns progressively (the game seems to be part FPS)-but my main gripe was I didn't really like the Angel-Demon fight stuff of the plot. I should have thought those will probably take a large part of the game (via the FMVs for example), but I thought I could focus on the FPS/puzzle elements instead-but I may not be able to let go of the story completely if I actually play the game, so what you said was a good reminder of that (plus, I already have other FPS and other puzzle games if I want to satisfy that itch of mine). Thank you for your advice/reminder !

@AgentBirdnest:I suppose this is good advice to people who buy every game they see- I don't usually do this, but I was in a weak moment, craving for some FPS/puzzle gaming and manga wargaming. (I'll probably satisfy my needs for those by resuming Indy and the Fate of Atlantis and Serious Sam: The First Encounter and also resuming the aforementioned Jeanne D' Arc.). Btw, I'm not the only person resembling your aunt in that aspect-the Official Stop Buying Games Self-Help Group thread probably contains many people buying stuff just like that-you could offer your advice there too! :-)

@adaliabooks: You're right! I don't like samey/repetitive stuff and the DLC tactic is somewhat offputting too-I was probably under the influence of the manga style but I'll fight it off by playing some Jeanne D' Arc (as I already mentioned). Thank you for your advice/reminder as well !

All in all, thanks to your help, I did it! I managed not to buy these games for the moment and I'll probably manage to hold strong by playing stuff I own in the genres the aforementioned games are. Thanks again everyone! :D
I'm a happy pigdog today!

I've been disputing an (incorrect) invoice for a significant amount of £'s since September with the mobile giant that is Vodafone. They even handed my records to a debt collection agency who threatened to file a default against my credit rating.

To cut a long story short, I have finally managed to have the debt written off and my credit rating remains unaffected.

It's a massive relief and I'm also quite proud that I saw this through when there were times when I felt like just giving up and paying the debt off.

Been through that kind of crap myself and it's a real pain. Glad you got it sorted. ;)

Good on you! Too often it feels like the monolithic corporations rely on just that kind of surrender. Glad you prevailed against them!

A victory by one against the non-regulated big corporate,
and their rampaging fraudulent practices is a victory for all every day people.

Haven’t seen you around these parts for awhile,
glad to hear you are happy and well... :)

I regret I googled "pigdog" >__< Curiosity killed the cat...
It's grim and rainy here today, so in answer to ddickinson's other animal-of-the-day question, my fish self today is Sturgeon. Please don't tell the caviar people where I am.

Isn't he adorable? They are so cute in the way they move, too. They are especially darling in the snow. Their arrival means that Winter has truly settled in. I'm glad you like them, and happy I could introduce you to them.

Good day, Sinistar!

That's a very lovely bird. I guess I should pick a more original bird, I usually stick with Robin when I am happy as there is one in my garden most mornings just hopping around all happy and looking so nice with the big red breast. No snow here yet, thought when there is the Owls looks just wonderful in the snow.
