ZenWan: Hello Crow, you seem to be the last one standing, now that Endre and gunsynd have gone. Hope all is well in your world.
I spent yesterday fighting computer issues, not fun. To reward myself for coming out on top, I bought Battle Chess, even tho I can't afford any games right now. But it was a good discount, and I had a frustrating day, and ... and.. - sometimes you just have to break your own rules. :-D
I've never played it, but I'm an avid chess player, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one.

I usually am, but I have an advantage since Endre's hours later than I am, and Gunsynd's schedule is pretty much totally different since they're 19 hours ahead of me.
Wow, you spent less than 3 dollars in celebration of overcoming all day tech support garbage. How overindulgent of you...-laughs-
But I did promise myself that I wouldn't buy any games until the finances were in better shape, so it took a little persuading to get that promise to be - not exactly broken - just bent a little.
I do my own tech support, so it was just a small fee to pay....
....and after all, it is an educational game, right? ;-)
You see, I'm still trying to justify that moment of spending madness. ;-D
ZenWan: Editing out my reply to Crow, it's too confusing if it gets tacked onto this post. Will repost in a while..
CarrionCrow: Indeed, we must weed out confusion at all costs! (Or was that "add to confusion"? I keep getting those two mixed up. ;) )
laughing! Confusion reigns.
Or is that 'rains'?
Just wishful thinking...

ZenWan: Yeah, call me a spendthrift, I can take it. Been called worse things. <laughing>

Don't worry. You can be more sensible, and I can balance that out in the thread with continued absurd behavior and exceedingly poor impulse control. And yes, I can think of far more meaningless items in terms of mental development than a chess game.
Rain would be good. It appears that summer is going to occur normally, which is to say, it's going to be frigging miserable for the next 3 to 4 months.
But, if any does show up, I'll attempt to shift it your way. Might take a while considering the distance, but the effort will still be made.

Oops, did I say a bad word? ;-)
Your kindness in making that effort, and remembering about the rain I so long for, is greatly appreciated.
You do seem to have a facility for remembering a huge amount about your little charges in this thread, and making them feel welcome and cared-for. I was going to say 'loved' but I thought that was pushing it. <big grin>

ZenWan: It all adds to the interest of your posts, never a dull moment when Crow is around, which is most of the time. No wonder this thread just keeps on going - and giving... Like moths to a flame, even the little lost friend-seekers find their way here, like homing pigeons, looking for a safe haven with Crow.

The thread keeps going because of all the people in it. Without that, it's just me talking to myself, which would get old pretty quickly. Oops, did I say a bad word? ;-)

Also, I don't mind pigeons, even if I dislike that game violently.
Downloaded that again, and had to seriously think about life choices. -laughs-
It's very much garbled, since my memory's not exactly fantastic on a good day.
Other people do a better job at the whole welcoming thing, I think. I'm just me, whatever that happens to be at a particular moment.

To be honest, I don't even know what game that is, just that there is a story told - in a hushed voice - to newcomers that they must be careful of saying that p.. word to Crow...
Time to get moving - enjoy the rest of your long night....
Thanks for chatting, and for just being there when you're needed. :-)

Good morning, everyone!
How are you on this lovely sunny day? I hope you are all enjoying the start of your weekend?
That's pretty evil. No on deserves that game. It would be like me gifting Hyper Fist Puncher. :-)
Good morning, Crow! I forget if I asked before, but what time zone are you on in your part of the US, if you don't mind me asking? For some reason I am thinking you are 8 hours behind me, so that would put you in the western US time zone.

Fist Puncher just gets really boring by the end of it, very repetitive. It didn't make me shut it off in less than ten minutes.
I don't mind. It's the Pacific time zone, yes.

How are you doing today?
It was the graphics that annoy me with Fist Puncher. I don't mind old graphics, but I prefer them in old games, not used by indie developers as an excuse for just being lazy and cutting corners. It seems that all they have to do it put "retro" somewhere and they are allowed to use graphics that look like they are 20 years old, or made in MS Paint. Pacific time, that is what I was thinking of. If I remember correctly, the US has three time zones: Eastern, Central, and Pacific. I wonder why it's not called Western to fit the naming scheme of the other two. I think the time zone difference for me ranges from -5 hours to -8 hours.
I am very good, thank you. The day is nice and sunny, and it's my last long day. So I am looking forward to it ending so I can start having some more free time.
How is the downloading going?

It's worse than just that. They start recycling their art assets really badly, to the point that multiple bosses are clearly the same huge guy with some minor changes. And yes, you're also right. A lot of independents do that and use the retro excuse. Problem is, there's a clear difference between good retro (Shovel Knight, Meat Boy, Serpent in the Staglands for example), and garbage retro (more titles than I have the patience to list).
We've got Pacific, Mountain, Central and Eastern. Why Pacific isn't Western or Eastern isn't Atlantic, I have no idea. Sounds like the naming committee wasn't on the same page way back when.
Yes, the difference is between 8 hours behind you and 5.
Downloading is at 364 of 800 right now. Figuring I'll still be doing it when the summer sale hits, which is what I didn't want to have happen, but since I live in the middle of nowhere, my net provider isn't going to start having better speed options any time soon, so I get to deal with it.
That's great to hear. =) You certainly deserve to have some shorter days after working so hard.

Glad to hear you are doing fine. Good luck with giving up smoking. I hope you will be able to kick the habit.
Maybe the time zones were names back when America was still colonising the west. So if could be that Eastern and Central were already settled, and by the time you got to the Pacific you decided to just name it Pacific time. Who know. I have never heard of Mountain time before.
Do you have unlimited bandwidth where you are? I hear that many parts of the US have terrible internet connections and speeds. At least that's what several US people I have seen complain about.
Thank you, I will still be doing 12+ days, but I will get my evenings back, which is great for me.

Oh I agree, some games pull off the retro look and put some effort into it, other use the whole "we are poor indie developers" excuse. What I find funny about that, is that games made 20 years ago have better graphics and features. But today we have so many resources available (free frameworks, tutorials, resources, etc.) that even without the same money the developers had back then people cans till make good games. The high system specs for the "retro" games always surprises me as well. One of the recent 2D retro games (which looked very basic), required more RAM and video RAM than the Witcher 2. How can a 2D retro style game need higher specs than a fully 3D rendered game with all the stuff that Witcher 2 has in it. And yes, you're also right. A lot of independents do that and use the retro excuse.
