HypersomniacLive: Good day to all.
ZenWan: Hi everyone, it's a cool morning here, and I'm listening to some beautiful jazz..

Good to see you again @
HypersomniacLive, I hope that your back is feeling better. Sorry for my rudeness in never replying to your long-ago PM (RIP) but you are one of those who never showed up in my chat list at all, and trying to send you a chat / start a conversation, or whatever silly term they are now using, just gives me GOGspinning.
I tried to find a way to use Galaxy to download some games without installing them, but no luck. Anyone know if that can be done?
Also if it's possible to install games to an external hard drive? .....
HypersomniacLive: Hey ZenWan,
Rest assured that I've not read any rudeness in the lack of a reply; I'm fully aware of the issues with the chat system and the botched transition of the old PMs - you're among the forty (40) or so contacts I'm missing, so no need to apologise for anything.
I'm not using the Galaxy client, but apparently standalone installers are considered "Extras" and listed along with the actual game extras; have you looked into that option?
Also, I've read several posts from people having a variety of issues if they don't install the client using the default location - could this be the case for you?
As for installing games to an external HDD - have you tried to point the client to yours? From what I'm reading, it's possible to change the install location. I'd assume that if your external HDD is permanently connected to your system, it should work and create the right registry entries, but since the client is in pre-beta state, it may not work.
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond in detail, I'm most grateful. Would you send you a little chat thingy to say thank you if I was able. Sorry that you're missing 40 of your contacts, that is not good news at all.
I hadn't tried Galaxy before, except briefly. When I found I couldn't turn off the public notification of what game I was playing, I exited stage left.
I am happy to hear it's possible to download without installing, will check that out.
My gaming computer only has XP installed - I have a copy of Windows 7 (legit) but didn't install because I didn't want to lose all my programs, some of which I already struggled to install of old disks, and a lot of temp giveaways as well. It works for me as I don't use it to do any web surfing, and I have very tight security.
But it won't run the GOG downloader, and the other one is very slow. I thought I'd see if Galaxy was faster. I am presently downloading games onto an external hard drive hooked up to my laptop, via the GOG downloader, but my connection speed is lousy. That's why I thought I'd try running downloads on both computers.
Will check out your other advice - and thank you once again. I know you don't like Galaxy, so that was help beyond the call of duty. ;-D
Hope you're enjoying your day.
Hi to everyone else, on this sunny Sunday.
j0ekerr: Good afternoon fellow threaddites.
Just a heads up in case anyone has
missed it in the general page. Thanks j0ekerr. Not even via Steam, that's amazing of them. :-)
Forgot to say +1 for that, and lots of +1's for Hyper - and of course, for much-missed Moon.
