Soccorro: The turks were lucky, the british had some incompetent officers at Gallipoli. I also think there was some racially motivated underestimation of the ottoman forces too.
avatar
ddickinson: Again, it goes down to them being used to a different style of warfare. The First World War was the dawn of the modern era of warfare, with the introduction of things like tanks and military aircraft. You only have to look how the Ottomans would mess up to see my point about all sides finding it difficult to adapt.

For example, the first confrontation between Britain and Germany was a cavalry charge between two mounted divisions. In fact, and I can't remember the actual battle, but during the end of the war, the British led the last ever successful cavalry charge, against the Ottomans. The fact they still fought with horses, sabres, lances, and cavalry charges shows just how mixed the fighting styles of the war was.

Also remember that the British in those regions were often ill equipped and relied on colonial militia to bolster their numbers, and unfortunately these militia forces were not as well trained and would flee or turn traitor.
Well, that battle is still a thing in turkey. I have been there when it was "celebrated". :D

CarrionCrow: Looks like GOG's working on stuff. Last time my game count was at 795, now it's at 799.
I thought everything had been unbundled already.
avatar
ddickinson: Maybe to thank you for creating this wonderful thread, they have given you four new games. :-)

avatar
l0rdtr3k: Onee-chan,can I hug you again?
How's the shoulder? How work and your day?
avatar
ddickinson: Why onee-chan? I did not even really understand what senpai meant, but why is it now onee-chan?

My shoulder is doing a lot better, thank you. My day is going well, and I am just about to get back to some more physical work so I will be offline for a while.
-laughs- I would've figured they'd take games away for adding strain onto their forum.
avatar
CarrionCrow: And now I have 3 entries for Earth 2150 rather than 1, which would account for my number being higher.
Thank you for the info. =)
So are we getting more unbundling now? I thought we were done? They could at least have told us there was a second batch. *sighs*
καλησπέρα everyone *hugs and waves* :)

PalioDeMonte: But I tend not to blame galaxy and the other technical changes for this. I think most of these idiots were brought here by the TW3 launch and especially the nVidia promo. Don't think they'll stay for more than a month. Stay strong!
Yeah i think (and hope) so too...

So what do they all mean?

Why not use Brazilian words in stead of Japanese?
I'm a otaku and Onii-sama means older brother and onee-chan means younger sister.
Or I could call you "my waifu" but I won't because I already have mine.I haz new girlfriend,we're dating for a month.
Well back to some more physical work I go, I will see (talk to) you all later.

*hugs and silly waves*

Hello! I hope you are doing well?

are you assuming it would have been a british vctory if the british troops mainly consisted of "actual british" soldiers?

...
Was it the battle of Sambre or Mons?

regarding our previous posts, I'm hoping that I'm getting the facts correct, but if I do post something that is incorrect, or lacking something please don't hesitate to point that out. :)

You're right about the having to adapt to changing warfare, which was occurring through the 16th and 17th centuries as technology progressed, but by the time WW1 rolled around, the era of mechanized warfare had posed a level of horror and carnage not ever seen before that time. Psychologically, it must have been shocking even to the most hardened veterans of war, of their time.

GhostwriterDoF: I wouldn't say it's "weird" by your style of composing is unusual because the works thus far doesn't have definitive movements, which is expected by most ears... might be why your associate thought it lacked a "story". :)
Indeed, it's a little quirk. I work with about 4-6 little themes/tunes/melodies throughout each those pieces, and I ussually stick to them and repeat them, let them play at the same time, do some variations, ... .

I much try to stick to the same feeling throughout one single movement. I've tried some things (pieces) with mood swings in them, but those are the first pieces I ever wrote, and they are rather unremarkable/not quite satisfactory.

But In my opinion the "dies irae" and "terra perturbata" movements are different enough in sound to imply different feelings, meanings, no?

The dies irae is slightly more menacing, and the terra perturbata is more, gloomy, inconsolable. When I'm done with all seperate pieces, they all together form the big requiem.

edit: and pointing out once again, my sources of musical knowledge are:
-"music theory for dummies"
-"counterpoint for beginners"
-4 months of studying the above

I don't mean to be butthurt, for the record ;) , but I don't expect to be an instant member of the wolf gang :p

Easy users who post 'add me' everywhere ? :P

HypersomniacLive: Curious - which things do you consider to be of cosmetic nature?
Perhaps cosmetic is not the right word as it can imply it's just a matter of preference.

I meant changes related to presentation which are finally controlled by the rendering in the browser and can therefore be altered in the browser as BE and other scripts have done in the past.

- Expand the text box. (Permanently, not the same as you asked but a tradeoff and easier to do)
- Don't grey older messages
- Make the indicators of new messages next to each contact more visible and readable.
- Increase the overall usable area to make it more desktop-friendly.
- Adjust the contacts area and the size of avatars and usernames (make them smaller).
- Increase the messages area, and adjust the size of avatar and username (make them smaller).

Providing ordering options is what I would call a functional change which might require a server-related solution.
Changing the behaviour of "Enter" is functional too but it could be fixed in the browser.
Hey everyone.

As you may or may not know, I made a search / filter script to help with the Mafia games and I've been working on expanding it for more general use on the forums.

The first version is done, and is available here. Let me know what you think :)

GhostwriterDoF: How's the weekend shaping up for you?
avatar
HypersomniacLive: My weekend is out of shape. Probably just going to take it easy, to help my back.

Thanks to all who voted, we need as many votes as possible, and hope you all have a nice weekend planned.
I hope you have a good game controller, as a back out-of-whack can put a crimp in your game...
and that your weekend will be a healing one. :)
